My quest to fix my computer continues. I have a broken or corrupt hard drive and need tips on either fixing one or whatever. I have no idea what's wrong with it, but it started acting up after I added new RAM to my computer and well…..took out everything else and put it back in. I mean everything, motherboard included. It refuses to go to windows, but it will go to that blue screen where you can input commands and what not. I would rather not have to buy a new hardrive for an outdated computer.

Obviously, my knowledge of computers is limited and my roommate FAILED ME AS WELL! Anyway, any help will um....help. Maybe I can get back to roleplaying! Who knows?! The computer has been rotting in my closet for about 2-3 months now.

Oh, and I can't buy a new computer. I'm broke enough as it is. HELP!

Ok, If you have the original Windows CD, It's windows XP, I assume?

Boot up on the Windows CD and go through the process for installing a new copy of windows. At some point during the cycle, it will give you the option to Repair your existing Windows Installation. Select that.

This should sort out any corrupt windows files.

Next, if/when Windows manages to start, right click on the C: drive and select properties. IN there is the option to scan your hard disk for errors. I think its on the Tools tab and call "Check Now" from memory. This will require a reboot to do so. Allow it to reboot and then run a full check of your hard disk.

This should sort a lot of hard disk errors, unless the disk is really terminal.

Once you've done a "Windows Repair" and Check-Disked" your hard disk, go ahead and get the latest updates from Microsoft Updates website.

Let us know how you get on.

Does it work when you take this new ram out? When your comp starts up you can push something like F8 to get to a boot menu and boot from a cd, put your XP cd in and do that and repair the install.
