Arcane Project: Project Fear

Now I don't expect you all to like this.
It is however a sound strategy and ask it be considered based on its merits.
After Griffon Hill is taken it is theoretically possible with the right foci and reagents to empower a fear spell over a large area.
This would put doubt in Tilvertons troops minds and make it hard for them to sleep, they would be less effective and may even throw open the gates to make it stop making it a less costly victory

Apprentice,
The plan has true merit and sound tactical reasoning behind it. Depriving the enemy forces of their moral and sleep would increase our chances at successfully taking over Tilverton.
My only concern is that such aura will impact more than just our enemies - Innocent both nobles and Commonfolk alike. We are better than harming those, unlike the Duke.
I have issued an order to Sentinel Vandern of my house, prior to the war to map the layout of Tilverton itself noting their guard posts and strategic locations. Given that knowledge we should attempt to make adjustments to this fear aura to focus on these locations and minimize impact on the innocent population of Tilverton. I believe our Queen will appreciate greatly our care for them in our plans.
Beyond that the plan has true merit as I said.

True, But war often is unpleasant.
I do not wish undue harm on the commonfolk and nobility, Yet the Duke will have forced them into service. Like it or not they are combatants and it behooves us to accept they will be forced to fight us.
Better they lose some sleep and consider surrender than we have to force our way in and put them to the sword.
If they were not being forced to fight unwillingly and the Duke would not almost certainly torture or execute those who did not I would of course go with your suggestion.

Also for an unrelated reason I've actually been working on a way to ward off fear and nightmares
I enclose a copy of the notes.
I believe a ring or necklace can be fashioned to allievate the worst whilst a more permanent solution is found. I believe platinum would be a suitable metal to hold the enchantment as it used in equipment for priests who usually have strong minds, I shall have to look what gemstone would best hold the spell, Perhaps a joint project with a priest as spells of remove fear would be a good base, along with clarity
Lesser versions could be produced if the original project works and given to vital troops of ours we cannot afford to be affected such as the nobility
We must accept we will lose some troops anyway.

As we have corresponded on, Apprentice Iverlesk, this is indeed within the realms of possibility.
I have been working through calculations and theorem around the exchange of positive and negative energies required, along with possible focus and receptacles to potentially magnify the overall range and area.
It will not be as simple as initially considered, but it is certainly not outside the realms of reasonable expectation.
I will need to consult a Brother Skull and seek his help.
We will be in touch to bring you up to date as soon as I have had that conversation.

Apprentice,
Find some means to have a more pinpointed effect if at all possible, so that we may avoid unnecessary wanton harm. Both to the innocents forced against their will to serve the Duke, as well as our own troops.
I am certain a harbinger of magical dominance such as yourself, can find a way.

In theory such is possible yes, but I do not believe it will work as you hope it will.
To pinpoint the spell we would need to get much closer to the Towers, Such is made much more difficult with the mines Sabotage because we cannot acsess the side of Tilverton closest to the Wondergrange through the Marches.
Then we must also consider people don't exactly like standing in place terrified and would likely just move out of a localised zone.
Whilst this may clear the area we would still have to fight them elsewhere. Thus my advice would be the larger area version despite the possible drawbacks as we can devise a counter for our own elite troops
Of course the final decision is yours.

We could potentially slay two Orcs with one casting.
Should I manage to get behind the enemy lines and enter Tilverton, anchor points could be placed within the walls, perhaps even upon them.
A secondary objective, if you will, after establishing which Noble families need to be extracted.
Apprentice Iverlesk and I will discuss my calculations and general theory, before we commence fabrication of items that will prove necessary to the casting.
Whilst it is a large undertaking, I am quite confident we can have some impact on the quality of defence the Tilverton Militias will present.

Yes, such is a sound theory which will likely prove better than just aiming for a guard post if we do go with smaller castings.
