Just for Fun

From the Venerable Cloister of Reth'Yadul, Evermeet:
Duevar's Grimoire. A Patching of Pitiable Histories.
On the origin of Elven-Bone Armour or "The Exquisite Spine".
During the lamentable and ruinous kin-slayings of the five Crown Wars, there were a number of Ilythiiri sorcerers that struck addled and unwholesome bargains with various infernal personages.
Their abominable pacts with the ilk of the Demonweb Pits has been well documented elsewhere by our sundry sages and chroniclers.
Further words concerning that inimitable stain upon the Tel'Quessir will not be shed here…Still, there were some lesser Practitioners amongst the Ssri'Tel'Quessir that, for the price of a few wormy souls; succeeded in beseeching certain other lesser demi-Lords of the Lower Worlds to come and throw wrack and woe upon the sane spaces of this earth.
And when the Breaking of our Black Cousins and their allies at last came. When we drove them into the bitter depths, there lingered, in spite of our Eyes and many Sharp Hunts; horrors and hints of sour evil.
One such Abomination there endured and rankled in the mucks of what, to the Young Races, in recent chronicles, has come to be known as The Forest of Mir.
Lord Qoon, damn'd be It's bilious naming; or in It's own terrible, hated, tounge:
Qoon'Rii'Shiipharak'Moongkolash.
This minor caliph and vizier of the Lower Darks, fled into that antique wood.
Where for the movement of fourty-score seasons, caressed and nursed Its malice, bringing sickness unto the trees. For this time, It was patient. But for this languid creeping canker upon the boughs; the groaning of leaves. The Abhorred Lord Qoon, may have lingered longer and reaped a far weedier harvest.
That is only a rumination.
A speculation. But in Its foul and flawed wisdom, It grew greedy; before the zenith of Its strength...
Damn'd Lord Qoon dispatched his poisoned servitors and lieutenants to lay snares and seize our Loves.
This Unutterable Act did not pass unremarked for long.
This we know:
The Hero Taah, or "Fox Wand" in the speaking of the younger N'Tel'Quess; blessed be His Sleep…
Lastly, after much beloved blood and salt was shed, Taah cut the vile liver from Lord Qoon's grey belly and cast him gurgling from this Sphere.
Though it cost our Hero Taah, his life.
Lord Qoon's House was thrown into the sucking muds; his minions broken and scattered.
The high tragedy though, came following at foot of the slaughter.
For upon some of their ruined bodies, upon the breasts of Lord Qoon's shattered seneschals, was found the stolen bones of our kin, fashioned by the most mishapen of sorceries into warped and bent plating.
Stitched with their sinews...It is whispered, that upon witnessing this terrible enlightenment and the anguish in the eye of one of its Tel'Quessir conquerors; from the torn lips of one of the Demon's expiring stewards, there oozed the speaking: "Exquisite Spine…"
As it chuckled bestially and drowned in the black blood of its own crumpled shape. Thus was the hideous organ branded.
The blasphemous armours were gathered and cracked; consigned to ash in thick fires.
Prayers were murmured.
There was mourning. And the Moon moved again…
Though, amongst us, the seers and sages of our People, we have yet to be certain that all of these obscene artifacts have been vomited from the World.
We can only dream and hope that some unspeakable shred of the profane Lord Qoon's legacy, does not hang in some forgotten, unhallowed space...

Elven-Bone Armour "The Exquisite Spine"
At first glance, this breastplate +2, damage reduction 5/Good.
appears pearly and pale, like the nacreous, polished interior of a shell.
Closer inspection reveals the cracked pattern of preternaturally melted and fused bone. Plate upon plate, sewn into a horrible whole by wiry, white sinew.
If one observes the breastplate in motion (as upon a moving body) a ghostly, twisted elven visage, dances in a macabre manner across the armour's surface. The sex of the aspect will depend upon the bones' previous owner…
If it was a male, it will be a masculine face. If, on the other hand it was female, the features would be feminine.
It is in either case, terrible to behold. The armour exudes a Fear Aura (Su), similar to that of a Lich's.
This aura may be switched off and on by the wearer as a standard action.40ft.
Effects are as a Fear spell cast by a 5th level Sorcerer. The same single creature, on a successful Will save, cannot be affected again by the armour's aura for 24 hours.Should any nonevil humanoid don this armour, they will immediately be affected as though by a combined Blindness/Deafness and Feeblemind spell. This cannot be dispelled and there is no save allowed.
This effect persists until the armour is removed.Should any Elf or half-elf don this armour, regardless of alignment, they must succeed on a DC20 Fortitude save, or be affected as though by a Slay Living spell. A successful save still deals 3D6 damage, as per the spell and the armour is magically thrown clear of the wouldbe elven or half-elven user, 20ft. in a random direction.
Should any evil, non elven humanoid don this armour, in addition to the benefits listed above, the wearer begins to develop a slow, smouldering hatred of all the Fair Folk.
After 24 hours in the same individual's possession, anytime the owner encounters an elf or a half-elf, they must succeed at a DC20 Will save, or fly into an uncontrollable rage; relentlessly attacking the elf.
This save must be made once per encounter and is similar to a Barbarian Rage (Ex). Except, it will last only 7 rounds and cannot be prematurely ended. The benefits and after effects of fatigue are the same. This intractable hatred will slowly dissipate after a further 24 hours, if the armour is removed from the creature's possession for at least that same amount of time.
Strong necromancy [ evil ]; CL 15th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Slay Living, Feeblemind, Blindness/Deafness, Fear; Price 54,000gp; Cost 27,000gp + 2160xp
The particular method for crafting these vile instruments was lost when Lord Qoon was thrown back to his native Abyss.
Obviously, along with the terrible death of one of the Fair Folk, the additional knowledge and components needed for completion of a piece, could only be gleaned from Lord Qoon himself (he would need to be located and suitably placated) or perhaps from one of his infernal peers.Such a communion would most certainly cost more than most would be willing to pay and is certainly not the act of a sane and wholesome mind.

Yes, obviously, this is more geared to a PnP campaign, but with a little effort, a shadow of the original could be made workable for NWN.
In any event, maybe I went a little overboard, but as the thread so proclaims: Just for fun.
And I certainly enjoyed concocting this.- Scarrow

Robes of Elvenskin
Sick of the weak powers of a cloak of elvenkind, the necromancer Chan Tzuel captured several elven wizards and forced them to improve on the original design of the cloaks. They're continual failures prompted Chan to create these robes from the flayed flesh of the elven wizards.

A beautifully crafted dwarven war axe that feels remarkably light. Strange runes are carved along the shaft's length. The axe's grip appears fit only for dwarven hands.Identified Description
This was the standard issue of the frontline Deepstone defenders. The weapon is a little shorter and far lighter than your average dwarven axe. The curvy surfaces of this unusually strong metal is so polished that one would swear it has never seen the blunt end of a hammer. This reinforces the rumor that the Deepstone metalsmiths never used heat or hammer to fashion their weapons, yet had discovered the gift of magically softening their metal through chant. This allowed them to shape all manner of metallic items as if it were wet clay. There is an indentation of dwarven hands in the hilt's grip (no doubt made by the weaponsmith), making it extremely difficult for non dwarven hands to effectively use the weapon. But in the control of a true dwarf, the waraxe feels extremely comfortable. So much, in fact, that many dwarves experience a growing reluctance to put the weapon away.Deepstone Dwarven Half Plate

Much of Clan Deepstone's military success in the deep reaches of the Underdark came from the skill and wisdom of their Clan Commander known as Deregrin "The Stout". So much honor and respect did they have for the tactical genius of Deregrin, that they fashioned every plate suit they ever made from a full mold of his petrified body. His battle hardened form was considered by the Deepstone's as the perfect Dwarven body. Wrapped in filthy tattered blankets is the ghastly remains of a mummified dead child. On occasion, you can almost sense that it is moving.Identified Description:
The Amsworth family was a moderately wealthy husband and wife from Suzail. When their three month old child fell victim to the plague, Lady Feley Amsworth's despair lead her to search for a way to revive her only child. A vile wizard taught Lady Feley the art of animating the dead. Feley's despair worsened when her inexperienced incantations miscast on her poor child, reviving the baby only partially. After this tragedy, no cleric of her faith would resurrect the child without destroying it first, something Feley could never bring herself to do. Instead, Feley performed the reanimation ritual nightly for years, trying to correct the wrong she had done. One night, Lord Brigam Amsworth secretly stole the acursed baby from it's mother's arms and set it adrift down the river. When Feley realized the betrayal, she went insane, killed her husband and fled down the streets, never to be seen alive again. Rumors persist that her vengeful ghost can be seen searching for the one who has stolen her child.
The mummified child has been saturated with the magic of animating the dead, giving the caster who knows how to use it the ability to animate fallen victims once a day. But it is said that those who invoke it's magic can hear the whispers of a crying baby constantly, making concentration quite difficult. -

It is rummoruded that the threads of the robes are fine strands of metal that is encanted to hide the bearer from sight. While a fine example of elven art these robes are made in sizes specific to the elven people and would harldy fit a wearer of another race.

Cloak of the Gentle Weave
Tryssandra Graylock, Priest of Mystra, was crippled in battle by a powerful and malicious wizard at a young age. The curse, which she was unable to break, left her bereft of the ability to walk and to follow her friends into battle. Homebound, she instead devoted years to making a cloak that would allow good-hearted users of the Weave to carry some of Tryssandra's own faith in Mystra with them, in the hopes that they would use it to stand fast against the misuse of Mystra's essence for hateful purposes.

Jyran's Gnarl
When an unnatural pestilence struck the mountain village of Upper Hirlth, it killed everyone in the town except for a young boy named Jyran Kith, and destroyed all vegetation but a single tree under which Jyran's parents lay down to die. He grew up on his own, living off the rotting foods left in the town's storehouses. By manhood, he had become bestial and intolerant of all other living things, and had mastered the darkest secrets of the forces of nature. He found that the plague that devastated his town lived on in the tree that survived with him. When he finally left town to hunt in the lands below, he cut down the tree and made it into a number of staves with which he poisoned his prey before he could be seen. He used them conservatively throughout his short and brutal life, and a number of them were as yet unused at his death.

Gadget's Improved Egg Launcher
Heavy CrossbowAttack Bonus +1
Cast Spell: Stinking Cloud (5) [2 Uses/Day]Gadget Blownapart stumbled upon what he thought was the greatest creation one day, while he was cleaning a house which was quite messing with bug guts. He would later learn the device was a "Rotten Egg Launcher". The design behind the device was that it could store 3 rotten eggs at a time and launch them, 1 by 1, at a later time. He constently tweaked the machine, and eventually fitted the device on this his crossbow after removing the central launcher. He was now able to use both of his favorite weapons at one time. Another "addition" was that of a small lens on the tip, used to better aim the device.

Arrow of Dissent
The ranger Gelan Limbwalker led a band of happy-go-lucky robbers in an eastern forest as they resisted the local baron's onerous taxation of the local peasantry and liberated unnecessary possessions from the excessively pecunious. They let a mischievious wizard pass through the forest unharmed one day after he agreed to enchant their arrows to allow them to rain merry discord down on the baron's militia and other local law enforcement. Gelan slipped away from his camp in the dark of night a few years after, never to be seen again, and deprived of their leader the band eventually lost their mirth and dispersed, carrying these arrows with them as they departed for different parts of Faerun.

Magic Silkworms of Whitenon.
Whitenon, also known by his true name of Tan'mari to his few apprentices, a highly skilled but little known assassin who operated in Thay, used his knowledge of tailoring combined with cunning magic skills to his advantage.
The silkworms he bred after numerous years of experimentation had two special properties. First, they could be fed any type of poison. Secondly, the silk they spun was laden with the effects of this poison, but would only release after untying a magically treated knot made from the same material and kept seperately.
Being widely known as a true artist when it came to silken clothing, a personally designed gift from him was a great honor, and many unsuspecting mulani nobles died horrific deaths during the years of his life. His failed experiments in controlling invisible and deadly poisonous spiders lead to his accidental death and discovery before he perfected his art.
Use: Once daily (Or less). Creates a random silken item of clothing (torso), as well as a small "silk knot" that may be used to poison the wearer of said clothing once only, at any time. Poison type and strength depends on caster level on creation.
(Ideally it would create a silk bolt, which would retain the "sleeping poison" property throughout proper item creation)

Rod of Rayneis
Rayneis was a seer of Oghma consumed with discovering "ultimate truth." He delved deeper and deeper into the workings of the planes, and created a number of magical devices to aid him in his quest for knowledge. It is said that some truths are too much for even the powerful to behold, and he ended his days as a screaming, raving lunatic.
This was the last magical item he created, and quite possibly the last item he ever used before madness took him. Those who so much as touch it dream of horrible things.

"You hafta give it to ol' Sister Shareth" he commented, "Not too bright to trust a Thayan, but definitely a credit to the cause! I know! We shall make a tribute to Lord Jergal in her name! She would be pleased indeed, YESSAH!" Father Grigor then enchanted the hairs and had one of his Jergalites fashion a bow with the hair as the bowstring, and the bow was infused with her archery competency and her blunt attitude that accompanied it. Even though Shareth Wyndmere was fooled into willingly going to her death by a promise of return, this bow ensures that in some small way she still walks Faerun.

Heels of Pranciness
Errold the Spry was the youngest of three adventuring brothers, and he was always complaining that he got the least exciting artifacts that the trio discovered. After they had made their fortune, elder brothers Brutus and Tyrone commissioned this footwear as a practical joke at Errold's expense. When he put the heels on, Errold found that he could leap over hill and dale with the greatest of ease, but he was oblivious to how the speed they granted him made his voice insufferably chirpy. Since he had never lifted anything heavier than a wand in his life, he also never noticed how limp his arms became.
Errold always intended to leave the heels to his children, but oddly, he never had any. His nephew eventually sold them to a novelty shop in Suzail.
