Shadow summon theme

I like what Travis does with his shadow on Spooky. It's not just a summon - it's a constant thing. Watch him. He's exactly what I imagine a shadow caster to be like.

@latoksinned:
I feel you, I quit my shadow adept for this exact reason. I didn't want to play an evil necromancer concept and I roleplayed that my summoned shadow of my character Ravor was my exact shadow named Rovar. I never summoned it in town but I was the subject of hate, ridicule, and attacks by lumomancers and Lathanderites on a daily basis. When it got to the point that my neutral-aligned sorcerer who was just trying to research the plane of shadows and prove not all shadow adapts are evil, would have to become a villain just to survive without getting ganked, I quit the concept. I don't like playing a character that I cannot have any say in and their personality is dictated outside of my control. I can understand where you are coming from and I hope you have better luck than I do.
I'm not going to get discouraged. I'm still playing the concept without falling into the evil villain stereotype. I don't mind the character being scorned at all, I expect some folks to react that way and it is a part of the idea for my concept. Many folks have been kind enough to play out the fright/mistrust/hate/etc of the shadow without jumping immediately to choppy choppy. I think people are just getting used to the theme and how characters that are obviously going to be opposed to it would react. I'm having a good time with it and look forward to more role play.

DnD Official Source Books wrote:"Shadows are a form of incorporeal undead that resembles nothing more than their namesake. These wraith-like creatures exist to slay living beings, which they hate and desire to feed upon. When a shadow touches a living creature it saps the strength of the being. Any living creature slain by a shadow rises as a shadow soon afterwards."That's pretty straightforward. Undead. Evil. Don't summon them in front of people who might smite you for summoning undead.
And Shades aren't creatures in NWN to summon, because they aren't creatures at all. They're people who've undergone a painful process to have part of their soul replaced with essence of shadow. And in the DnD verse, generall speaking - anytime you start replacing parts of your soul with things that aren't your soul, you're acts are going to be considered evil.
If you want to RP that you're animating your own actual shadow, then you're in an entirely new ballgame. And you need to make it very clear that's what you're doing. (And maybe get with a DM about it, too?) Because in game, "Casting Summon Creature III" - Resulting in "Summons a Shadow" - results in people going, "OMG YOU SUMMONED A SHADOW!"
This kind of smacks of metagaming to me. I'm not one to tell other people how to play, so I might be way off base here, but… I'm not packing a source book. My character isn't and yours isn't either. We have a lot of freedom here to make the concepts what we want them to be so long as others play along. I've tried through role play to make it clear that the shadow is something that is always with the character and always active. It's a spell mechanically, but only because we are limited by clunky game mechanics. I may have taken too much liberty with this theme... I'm counting on a dm to set me straight if I stray too far from what I'm suppose to be doing. The shadow isn't summon creature 3 spell for the shadow sorcerer theme - it's a level one custom spell that was created for CoA. I've been playing it off as Spooky's actual shadow. He's not sure why it works, or how yet.

I enjoy RPing with Spooky so much, found it a very special character, and liked the way he developed the sorcerer theme into something new. Actualy, first time I met him, I wasnt aware of the shadowtheme sorcerer *beeing away from Arabel for 2 years)… in fact I had a sorcerer looking for some information IG about his powers, but at that time I thought (OOCly) Spooky was a Shadowdancer.
Even after I learned about the new themes, took me a while to realize Spooky was in fact a sorcerer, and for me thats kind of a statement against class stereotype, like sorceress being pretty, well spoken people (sry, but Spooky isnt that good looking :P)
I dont think we should just shut down this kind of enterprise, cause it just adds so much to the fun.
