Doesn't BG and BGII have multiplayer functionality?
You could probably find a few people around here who'd be into running through a co-op campaign with you.

A bit more than a line >_> but this particular passage always stuck with me.
Jurassic Park - Dr. Ian Malcolm
"I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here: it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility… for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could and before you even knew what you had you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you want to sell it."
Oh, and in honor of caek - "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti."
I played a paladin of Torm who buddied around with a cleric of Bane. Needless to say, awesome paladin powers were lost!
My characters response to this fall was, quite obviously, to then convert to Cyric and attempt to become a super sweet blackguard.
Gracious me, how I wish i could forget those embaressing days :?
I'm sad to see some of my recent favorites haven't received a mention yet. Perhaps I might entice you to check out a couple though.
Joe Abercrombie - First Law Series
Read it simply for one character, though the series itself is amazing. Inquisitor Glokta remains my favorite character in fiction, and I'm sure you'd all love him too.
Peter Brett - The Painted Man
An enjoyable little demonic apocalypse novel with some interesting twists.
Scott Lynch - The Lies of Locke Lamora
Take Oliver Twist, add a small pinch of high fantasy along with a dash of Ocean's 11, and you've got this little beauty.
Needing to go out and butcher another player character whenever you want to cast animate dead is obviously quite inconvenient however.
What about necromantic reagents?
The system of augmenting summoning spells to bring forth different creatures has proven pretty sweet. It'd be nice to have a similar system for Animate Dead. Perhaps certain (extremely illegal) reagents could be used to bring forth different kinds of undead via this spell. One of the greatest flaws of animate dead mechanically is that it always brings forth the same crummy undead whether you're level 5 or 15. This could go a long way to making it a more balanced ability.
Certain charms or other items could be used to animate more powerful skeleton warriors, for instance. Others for mummies or ghouls.
Perhaps even some rare, powerful and/or expensive reagents could be used to call forth even more powerful undead. Doom Knights, Bodaks, Vampires, etc.
As far as being able to change the elemental form as we can here, that's already massively powerful, and in PnP, you have to be an archmage prestige class or similar to alter the elemental damage type, so this is pretty good for a 'low magic' server already, imo.
In PnP you also have a far, far wider selection of spells to choose from.
Simple things to make elemental magic more versatile, ala the Flame Weapon spell, are probably the best things to implement. And easiest too.
For example - Reagent + Fireball = Change the elemental damage of a fireball from fire to cold or electricity or acid.
You could do likewise for just about about every direct damage evocation I suspect. It's always irked me that the only 'cold' spells available are Ice Dagger, Ice Storm and Cone of Cold. And as an evoker, barring conjuration, there's not a single acid spell that you can cast. This should go a fair way to making evocation spells a bit more useful I think.
