RE: Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade.
would be so awesome if it supported private servers
The full release is intended to be a planetside 2-esque MMO, with an entire planet to fight over and conquer.
You can currently make squads so that all friends can play together as a group.

Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade.
A game I thought we could pile into as a community when it's completed.
Eternal Crusade is a third person shooter made by Behaviour Interactive. It takes place in the Warhammer 40k setting, on the planet of Arkhona. It's planned as a 4 faction planet-wide conflict with vehicles and bases to capture and defend, in a fashion very similar to Planetside 2, but with planned PVE content, such as Tyranid invasions.
The four forces are: Space Marines, Chaos, Eldar and Orks, with distant, possible plans for Tau and Imperial Guard Stormtroopers, if at all possible.
All forces will have their standard units as per tabletop, from Tactical Marines, to Devastators, to Assaults, so on, and so forth.
The best players per server will be given access to hero units. While they haven't elaborated on the other factions, they have mentioned that Space Marines will be getting the Legion of the Damned.
Space Marine chapters currently participating are:
Ultramarines.
Dark Angels.
Blood Angels.
Imperial Fists.
Space Wolves.Chaos Warbands currently participating are:
Iron Warriors.
Word Bearers.
Black Legion.
Night Lords.
Alpha Legion.Eldar Craftworlds currently participating are:
Ulthwe.
Biel-Tan.
Saim-Hann.
Iyanden.
Altansar.Ork Clans currently participating are:
Goffs.
Evil Sunz.
Bad Moons.
Deathskulls.
Blood Axes.Eternal Crusade is still in early alpha, and isn't due for the MMO aspect for some time. If you pre-purchase it on steam, you get access to the alpha, which can currently played as a faction vs faction conquest mode. So far only Space Marines and Chaos are playable at the moment, but Eldar are due next month, and Orks have already been mo-capped and on their way for development.
Eternal Crusade will be free to play on full release, but will only allow you to play the Orks. You have to buy the full game, if you want to play as Space Marines, Chaos or Eldar.

RE: CoA: The Problem with Alts
COA encourages alts, and by few means are they a bad thing.
Personally, I have about 4 or 5 alts laying around in the event that someone has a level loss spiral on their current character, or they're leveling a new one. Sitting around for an hour in Arabel waiting for someone to at least interact with is dreadful, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. When my character is at level 10 or higher, I simply cannot quest with them, and while I understand why it's intended so that high level NPCs can't train-wreck lower level quests for all the financial gain, I would hate to just chat with them ICly, then do nothing with them from there on out. If I have no pressing business on that character, I log out, grab that alt, and run off with that person looking to quest.
The problem I think, is not that alts are permitted. The problem is that people are getting too invested in a character they will dedicate little time to. And it should be encouraged to COA's playerbase to drum up these 'alts' with a less aggressive, stand-off demeanor.

Syra Opthek searches for entries on Sylvenite.
A woman dressed in olive green finery, with dull auburn hair tied into a ponytail wanders the library, looking for metalworking entries on Sylvenite, seeing if it were an ore, gem or metal, and to possibly locate where it can be found.

Syra Opthek searches for entries on a specific magical orb.
An auburn haired woman dressed in a black blouse, knee-long skirt and soft lounging boots browses the Thayan Embassay's library for magical item compendiums, specifically looking for entries describing a magical orb containing both the elements of fire and earth, colored both red and green. She brings the Orb with her, showing it to a Red Wizard for reference when asking for directions to the section which would bear the compendiums.
She speaks in the native tongue, and will privately explain any questions about the orb, if prompted.
