RE: Build Advice - Archer
From a build point of view, you could choose bard instead of rogue to multiclass too. You'll get tumble, and the song can be nice to boost your damage.
Just keep in mind if you don't get barbarian or rogue levels your dext AC will go down if you get flatfooted, so that means even if you have a good AC, you shouldn't try to tank.
Imo, barbarian levels are reasonable too, to get more HP, speed, and the possibility to boost your damage.

RE: Shaman's Mask of Doom
Not hvaing done it, or knowing what quest it is, just read the comments here…
It seems that quests such as this, which apparently need people to be "prepared" for it.. go against the very concept of not metagaming quest knowledge. Instead of putting effort into designing or tweaking such, it seems effort put into ways of having randomized quests would be betterThere is always some level of metagaming when doing scripted quests, unless its something completely new to you. You know you can't do certain quests without rogues, you know what spells to prepare to some quests, you know if your group is sturdy enough for that quest, etc.
I think this is not a big deal, players should be able to consider that, and chose between risky quests, and not so risky quests. Fey's opitional is a great example for me, it has an OOC alert about that.
Most quests can be done with less than ideal groups, and thats fine. The ones that can't, should have IC or OOC warning. Like, if you're going to storm an orc camp, its obvious you should bring a good number of warriors, etc.
The problem with Shaman's Mask is that it doesn't sound that dangerous, but you have spoiler alert several good ab orcs wielding 3x double axes and at least two +20ab, high AC and high damage output bosses that would take a dedicated buffed fullplate fighter to tank, and many more high dmg charaters to flank it, and but it down. spoiler ends
When we tried it, we had a nice and balanced group, with two frontliners (including a pure fighter fullplater), two rogues (one of them lvl 7), a cleric, and a lvl 7 wizard who focused on buffing and healing for that quest (the most effective way to quest with wizards), but it wasn't enough, because one of the frontliners and one of the rogues didn't have the ideal gear and levels. Altough it was tough, we could move on by using lots of consumables, but when the boss showed up we couldn't just deal with him. We even isolated him, using tons and tons of grease, caltrops and choking gas, used buffs on the fighter, but he still steamrolled the whole group… twice.
If you don't have an idea you'll deal with something so über, you will get pwned, no chance. An IC or OCC warning about it is necessary in my opinion, and I also think it would be nice to boost its reward too, lest it will continue to be an abandoned quest.
I know I and everybody who did it before won't do it again again until we hear it was toned down, or got a substancial increase in reward.

RE: Shaman's Mask of Doom
Or… make an OOC courtesy of warning how dangerous it is. I got pwned back to lvl 1 here too. This is the kind of quest that can only be done with an ideal group, heavily prepared for it.
I think its even tougher than Fey's optional. I've done Fey's optional having only one tank, with a party of 4 (including one that got killed back to lvl 1 at the beginning of the quest, and pretty much couldn't help at all).

RE: New and confused
@Giba:
…
Druids can't use metal armor, unless you chose Mielikki, and even so, you'll be restricted to medium armor too.
...This inaccurate. Yes, druids cannot use metal armor unless they follow Mielikki … They are not, however, restricted to medium armor. There are special heavy armors made for druids out there like, for example, the wooden full plate.
I think he was refering to Mielikki druids are limited to metal medium armor, they can not wear heavy metal armor
There is non-metal heavy armor that a druid can wear though
Eggxactly, think I wasn't completely clear, but that is what I meant. Thank you for clarifying this, anyway. ;)

RE: New and confused
Ok, Druids:
Druids have to chose a valid deity: http://coa.wikia.com/wiki/Druid_Deity_list or you'll get spell failure.
Druids can't use metal armor, unless you chose Mielikki, and even so, you'll be restricted to meduim armor too.
Druids don't get animal companion at level 1, like in single player, you'll have to find one in game, and tame it. If you use the "animal companion" buttom, it will display an error message with the commands you'll have to use. (I think its .companiontame or something like that). The more level you have, the more powerful animal you can tame and use as companion (you can't have a dire wolf from level one, even if you are able to Animal Empathy it).
If you still have doubt, shoot me a tell while I'm IG (account name Bilungada, currently playing Marcel Beauthierry and Sophia), or join CoA's irc channel.
(If you are new to RP, or new to Forgotten Realms, you should also take a look at some threads about druids, since they have some particularities - I can point o some of them).

RE: New and confused
Most changes are applied to pure classes only. You can Use the wiki:
http://coa.wikia.com/wiki/City_of_Arabel_Wiki
The forum (this one has all changes to pure classs):
Feel free to ask via PM and forum threads. You can also join the IRC channels (#coa and #coacharacters)
The AI is curently under modification, so there are a few issues to solve. Sometimes it can be very tough, but don't let that put you down. You can always ask for help for mechanics too.
Also, welcome to the server! :D

RE: What do you do for fun on the server
I enjoy characters with at least some social skills, so I can interact without major issues.
When I log in nowadays, I usualy:
- check for players that can help me, and try pushing plots (though I'm not good at it);
2)if someone else make a sending to push some plot (like going to hunt something, or adventure in some place) I tend to join them (sometimes even having a bit of OOC considerations, for the sake of fun), unless its something my character would never do, or if its a character who don't get along with mine (and even this point I get over, sometimes, for the sake of fun);
3)If another character wants to talk to mine, I usualy take my time, sometimes even delaying my plans hear them;
4)The last thing on my "to do list" is doing scripting quests, where I also tend to include the most players (again, even accepting people I should probably cast out of the group), and I try to RP things and adding fun to it.
Ever since I've been doing this instead of rushing "quest, quest, quest" like I used to do, my experience in CoA improved a lot, and now I realize the importance of providing fun to others too, because no one will care for a character who never helps in plots, never talks, and only joins you for grinding XP and gold.
What I find frustrating now, is when I try to do something different, like taking new characters to places they've never been before, pushing plots or doing some random adventure, and people don't join it because they want to grind XP and gold, or they join, but then 5 minutes later starts talking "lets go back to Arabel", "we should come back", "bla bla bla". I think the best way to avoid this is making contacts IG, and trying to keep at least a few PCs together in a group, so you always have people to do different things, and the best ways to achieve this is: playing only one, maybe two characters, (instead of making a new one every week), joining a faction, or making a group concept with other players.

RE: Best Frienimy
I think two people who are alike tend to potentize to flaws, specialy if one of the flaws is pride. From my experience, such conflicts has a tendency to "snowball" quite fast, and soon you can't even tell how it all began.
In my case, a little break and a little time apart usualy works. (and of course beers)
