RE: Why people complain about favoritism
Honestly, this is more a case of players being exclusionary more than favoritism. If only a certain select group had been told about it, and the rest of the player base kept in the dark, then it would have been favoritism. This sounds more like a case where players decided a smaller or select group was warranted, and worked to keep the rest out. Might have been better communicated by the DM running it, as far as what size group they were interested in running things for, as it becomes problematic when the number of players involved hits double figures. That said, it's possible the DM was setting things up or working in other areas, and not even paying attention to how the party was being composed and so had no knowledge things were going this way. Had you gotten a tell from the DM stating you were not welcome, or that this was for group A, and you should just move along, then I would call it a case of favoritism. What it seems to be is a standard case of player exclusion, which, while frustrating, is a fairly common event, due to a wide range of IC and OOC factors.

RE: Hello
Sure, you're playing right. There's nothing wrong, and in fact a great deal right with helping others with their plots. If everyone is only pushing their own thing, no one will move on with anything. It's not expected that everyone push personal plots. Someone needs to be a minion, and you can learn a great deal and have tons of fun being the flunky/trusted right hand man/hired help sort. The A&I post was set to address the issue of what do I need to get things done, since real world ideas most often won't work. Take for example, rebuilding a wall in Newhaven. It would seem fairly easy. There are unemployed refugees in the city, and stones and rubble laying about in the area. Toss some gold at the unemployed, have them grab and stack some rocks, and presto, rebuilt wall. However, what it really takes, is someone taking an afternoon or so to edit and change the module to reflect this new wall, or whatever. Having not done any building, I can't say how easy or time consuming this is, but I do know it means they can't be in game having fun while they do this. We all have limited time to spend here, so doing something like changing the module should be the result of efforts that made fun for as many people as possible. Hence, the ideas for what it would take to get these sorts of things done, as listed in that post. You don't have to do them to have fun or be an accepted member of the community. Pop in, have fun with chatting, questing, plotting, whatever the things you enjoy are. They key is to have fun with what you are doing. If you are doing that, you are playing right.

RE: Are our players okay?
Had to drop out fairly suddenly last night when the sirens went on. Wasn't even really raining here, but further north about 5 miles or so got hit bad. Did wake my son up though and was a bit of a pain getting him back to sleep.
By the by, I have a small bit of coin that was collected for those that were with me fighting ogres and giants. I'll find y'all in game later to dole it out.

RE: Sellling Hedge Magic.
They are only worth that much if someone's willing to pay it. These things go in cycles, depending on what folks are looking to do. Some reagents will be highly sought for a while, then, you won't be able to give them away. Given how much interest there is in them, makes sense that a subset of characters would work to make money off them.

RE: Promotions in DM factions
Far as I can see, there's no longer a system where you gain points for promotion, but rather do things to advance the cause of the facton you are in to get that promotion. When in doubt if what you are doing is actually helping the cause, a good idea might be to ask about it with a DM or two who are active with your faction. You know, the old "I've been doing x and y, but don't seem to be getting anywhere, something else I should be trying?"
Open communication and willingness to accept some criticism of your efforts can work wonders for getting things moving in a positive direction.

RE: Quantity of playtime pwns Quality of RP
It's one of the advantages and disadvantages of a 24 hr server. It's always up, and those that have more time to play will, well, play more. It's the same thing with levels, gold, loot, crafting or what have you. The more you're on, the greater the chance of finding "x" or being in the quest for "y". Never really mattered if it was a dm or dm-less plot, those with more time tended to be included the most. If you can only play a bit now and then, you can stay fairly up-to-date through the forums, and possibly make the things that are set-up ahead of time, but will miss out on most else. It's just the nature of the beast. Some can spend more time in game than others, and it's the way it's always been.

RE: Current level range
It goes in cycles too. There's no real secret to getting to higher levels, and folks tend to do it in bunches. A smallish group that quests together, bringing along various outsiders now and again, can gain higher levels, making it seem as the server levels going up, when it's only a portion that's on at the same time.
