Alright, I just made a priest of Chauntea which has 12 charisma and maxed persuasion and maxed lore. So I'm thinking that if he tells some one of Chaunteas dogma people should believe him. But one day when he was telling some one of the dogma that some one told him that what he says is not true and that another god Ubtao was the one that made the races of Faerun. Now me the player never even heard of Ubtao maybe my char could know because of the lore. Anyway unless of going into a massive arguing session I had no idea what to do. I mean if things go like this I would never be able to make people worship Chauntea. How would one go about converting people besides talking about the Dogma? If people just go around dismissing the dogma even if my character has maxed persuasion then my priest is a lost cause. And in my opinion a persuasive character that is a priest and is just talking about his god dogma should be believed (I mean he wasn't trying to convince some one to give up his possessions or an arm or a leg he was just talking about his creeds). So that being said anything that anyone could add could be of great help.

Perhaps just starting by reading the entry for your godess, as you play a cleric, Hmr?

Some of her worshipers claim that Chauntea is the progenitor of all the mortal races,

        "claim"

Do events, get plots going to push your God's agenda, and do some exciting Chantea related things.

No-one wants to just have their ear talked off by a priest.

            @Darian:

How would one go about converting people besides talking about the Dogma?

Doing awesome things. Do not talk about your dogma. That's usually boring. Show it. Bring people to live according to it, and they'll convert.

Malarites are not just stopping people in the streets to bore them about their creed. They are in the Hullack hunting creatures. Whoever joins them, will see they faith in action.

You are an Helmite or a Tormite? Don't speak about your faith. Organize patrols, stand guard. Lead peopel to do quests like the ones with the waves of orcs or goblin, and show them how important protecting something is. Organize caravans. Offer your help and those that would follow you as bodyguards (Believe me, many would pay for a bodyguards). And eventually those that have followed you will consider converting.

You are a Talonite? Bring people through the mountains, and in the deserts, and show them how powerful the elements are. Offer a trial by lightning. Three spells of lightning and he who manages to stand after them, will be allowed to command you for three days. If he loses, he will worship Talos for three days.

You are a follower of Azuth? Create your own library. You store every scroll you are able to find and offer them freely to EVERY mage, that in return will just have to replenish the library. Collect every possible book you can find and lead people in expeditions looking for long forgotten lore on how to master the mighty spell of mightyness.

The list is long, and these are the ideas I had in 5 minutes. Bottom line is, don't speak about your faith. Show how to live it, while involving people. It's ten times more effective.

Azzmodan: "Consider this, if you go too far then it's only torture if they live."
Azzmodan: "Otherwise it's a failed escape attempt."

As far as lore goes, I believe it is quite logical that your cleric might not know about other Gods IC. A cleric spends almost all his life learning about -his- god. He doesn't spend time reading books about other Gods in Faerun (Maybe some time learning about rival Gods). Having a high lore could mean that your cleric knows something about Chauntean clerics of past, or something like that related to Chauntea.

Theodore De'Vaul - He can will dragons into existence
Valerian Ballard - Took an early retirement
Bertie Farmer - Gobbled by Zxhoo
Manny Goodman - Died at Fangvale, two hit killed by a greedy dorf
              Gemli Arin

I already read that and some source books before making the character what i was talking about was the fact that if people just go around dismissing what my character says about Chauntea then that massive investment in persuasion was for nothing. And when people 'claim' something that is usually when the persuasion should kick in.

Another issue: All you can do is roleplay your stats and skills to the best of your ability. So your maxed out persuasion means you are allowed to play your character as a smooth talker, likable fellow. DMs can see this and have NPCs react appropriately if the situation comes up.

PCs do not have to react based on how maxed out your social stats are. They should base their reactions on how you roleplay, their background and what their stats are.

Tonight we burned the air in the highest point of the Thunderpeaks as a part of a ritual to appease Kossuth.

Because the Firelord is the best and He has supremacy on all other elements!

Probably we will convert others, possibly we won't.
                    But it was fun.

If Chuck Norris had performed in 300, the film would be called 1.

In pen and paper, the Diplomacy skill, which is the equivalent of Persuade, can't be used to influence PCs. If I play a charming character, I attempt to play charming to the best of my ability whenever I talk to PCs. I believe the reaction of the PCs should be determined by their player, however, regardless of the dice. That makes the use of the NWN skill consistent with the use of the pen and paper skill, and that makes me happy. Apart from that, all I can do is appreciate the players who humor my attempts to be charming and play along.

In pen and paper, the skill can be used to influence NPCs, however. I believe the dice should be used by the DMs to determine the reaction of NPCs, but I don't know if that's the policy here. A DM would have to comment.
