Player Profiles AKA Know Your Players

  • In reference to my recent post about increasing cohesion between players and DMs, I wanted to create this thread to help bridge the gap. I'm hoping that this will help DMs reach out to players in more fun and personalized ways. So, without further rabbling, I'll start it off.

And please, if you don't agree with this idea, then don't post here. Make a separate thread or something. This is only for people willing to follow the format.
What timezone do you play in?
U.S. Central Time Zone in Tennessee, so -5/-6.

What kind of plots do you like to be involved in?

I enjoy deep, roleplaying-intensive events that involve a lot of skill checks, imaginative thinking on both ends, and significant impressions after the event is over - meaning that it has some long-lasting impact on the character. Alternatively, I do also enjoy mass-combat events such as full-scale battles, tactical stealth operations, and legions of fun/interesting enemies.

What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?

I can usually go with whatever alignment/class except for caster-heavy factions. I have a particular love for evil factions, especially blatantly evil factions, such as the Legion on a good day.

What do you like to do with your time in the game?

Admittedly, I'm a quest fiend. I'll ever start my day off with a quick quest or two, then I'll dive into plotting and scheming unless I'm being called away from the get-go. If that happens, I spend my time trying to encourage others to come out and do things with me while we talk instead of locking ourselves up in a faction headquarters room.
What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?

I'm currently unemployed at the time of this post, but I'm still working on my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at a little university in Tennessee. When I'm not adventuring around on CoA, I'm hanging out with Benny (my better half) doing all sorts of things - playing Magic, taking hikes, watching movies, and the occasional glow/fire spinning.

Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
Nope, wish I did, though. I do now! I've successfully DMed two PnP campaigns thus far and participated in three more. This is a rapidly expanding number, two.

    Do you have a nickname?

    Neo.
The guy who made CoA rage comics.
    Colloquially known as "The One."

What is the best way to approach you?
Forum PM's are always welcome, though I'm almost always on IRC as "Neolithic" or some variant.

  • What timezone do you play in?
US Eastern in theory. Probably lcoser to the Pacific timezone in practice (-8/9)

What kind of plots do you like to be involved in?

Adventuring stuff. I despise the Underdark though. I enjoy Lovecraft, but not as a game. Don't mind politics, but its definitely not something I go to D&D for.

What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?

I hate church factions, and generally avoid Lawful, rest is good.

What do you like to do with your time in the game?

    Adventuring.

What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?

Work in retail, write stuff (some professionally), play in my band. Camp, hike, bike ride, parkour, and train MMA. I do have a graduate in computer programming, but I hate doing it on a professional/corporate level.

Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
Not alot of D&D. A decent amount of Shadowrun and a few VtM games.

    Do you have a nickname?
    Not especially

What is the best way to approach you?
Forum Pm'll work usually. I'm generally on IRC as Seth (though that can get lost in the myriad of people PMing me about DM things cause I have a channel op)

  • I don't currently play but I'm considering changing that after working through some technical difficulties.

What timezone do you play in?
US Central West Coast UTC -8

What kind of plots do you like to be involved in?
Plots that everyone can get a piece of. Plots that you can take that little piece of and make it your own.

What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
I like factions with a clear purpose and dedicated members.

What do you like to do with your time in the game?
Spending time with other characters whether that is talking, adventuring, plotting, questing, whatever.

What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
I am a Space Operations Officer for the U.S. Army. I play a bit of guitar and play whatever game is on special on Steam.

Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
I started playing Red Box D&D around 1981 or 1982. I started DMing AD&D sometime around '84. I also played Traveller, Gamma World, Call of Cthulu, Battletech, Mechwarrior, and Twilight 2000. I ran a campaign almost every day for about 2 years in High School in the library at lunch. Recently, I introduced my kids to 4th Edition and the new Gamma World.

    Do you have a nickname?
Not really. Friends in the Army used to call me Ollie, because they thought I reminded them of Oliver North.

What is the best way to approach you?
    Forum PM or irc.

  • What timezone do you play in?
    Mornings and afternoons, GTM.

What kind of plots do you like to be involved in?
I like belieable metaplots. The kind where you find the cult BEFORE the demon is summoned, or fight bandits or evil knights, rather than Demon Princes. Otherwise, I am a sucker for the political games, where you have to think before you hit.

What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
I like characters where you dont have to fit and mold your character to become part of it. Inclusion rather than exclusion imo.

What do you like to do with your time in the game?
Quest and plot. If possible, both at the same time.

What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
Drink, and try to keep a normal life. CoA is my escape, but a thing no one knows about. That, and I read shit loads of fantasy novels.

Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
From I was 10 til I was 12, I played standard DnD. Otherwise I have only played CoA.

    Do you have a nickname?
Rusty. Its stuck for a good 15 years now, for some odd reason.

What is the best way to approach you?
    Forum Pms definately.
