The Missionary - a CoA inspired fan fic

  • Hey there everyone,

For the last while I’ve been writing a fan fiction ~mostly~ based on CoA’s version of FR cannon that’s based on a character I played for a long while and after getting the second volume on it done, I thought I had a fairly significant body of work (in terms of word count) so I figured I’d share it and see if anyone out there might be interested in a little light Dungeons and Dragons fan fic reading.

I don’t know if there are many readers out there but I thought I’d put the link up anyway in hopes that someone might find it interesting and it’d keep me motivated to write more on it as well as work on other (salable) works.

Kathrine Stoneriver is a young priestess in service to Chauntea who’s fallen into a portal taking her on a whirlwind tour of the multi-verse. Her new friend has a secret and holds a relic that can give someone anything they want, even godhood. Yet the people she’s stolen it from not only want it back, but know her secret.

The conflict will test every moral sense Kat has and in the end will force her to choose her duty as a friend or her duty to the gods she’s sworn to serve.

Rated T for some minor cursing and implied sexuality (nothing explicit, you needn’t fear blush factor)

So, below is the link. Please feel free to send your thoughts to my PM box either good bad or indifferent or post them here if you don’t care whether or not others read them. If something doesn’t strike your fancy and you have ~constructive~ criticism to add, don’t feel you need to hold back, I have thick skin and I want to get better at the craft.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8011014/37/The-Missionary

As of the start of Volume 8, we're at 130 thousand words. Plenty to sink your teeth into if you find the dish to your liking. 🙂

  • So, after a short break to recharge the batteries, I've started on Volume 3 of this tale. There's going to be much more emphisis on the overarcing story from this point forward as well as a semi-nautical taste as the characters travel various locales on a planar vessel. I'm -always- intested in hearing ideas and feedback on anything from content to construction. I've always got a lot to learn so please don't be shy. My ego doesn't need -that- many carbs to sustain itself and I don't bite. Hell, even a line saying 'yeah this isn't my thing but I liked/didn't like/think you could improve on X Y or Z' would be helpful.

Volume 3 starts with a very short, two page beginning but should tie up everything quite nicely. For those not familiar with the fiction, please feel free to stop by my FFN page and take a peek, doesn't cost you anything except your time, right? 🙂

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8011014/2/The_Missionary (Volume 2 Chapter 1)
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8011014/7/The_Missionary (Volume 3 Chapter 1)

  • Alrighty, got another chapter up today (at Chapter 3 in Volume 3) and I also redid the Prologue (Volume 1) along the way to make it much more coherent and fitting to the overall tone of the story. If you've read the original, I highly encourage a quick re-read, I'm sure you'll agree it's better!

So as I near the 40 thousand word mark, I'd like to say to those who read as a hobby or just enjoy a good yarn, please take a peek at this and give me your honest thoughts on it good bad or otherwise! I'd love to hear some reviews on things and to hear what people think. 🙂 (Yes I'm an attention whore, I know) I've gotten a lot of useful feedback in my PM box and I continue to look for it because I want to improve, so don't be shy about it! Assume I have no feelings or soul and you can't hurt it.

So yes, to re-iterate; more updates, revised chapter 1. Enjoy!

  • Eugh. It's taken a while but there was a new update posted bringing it up to Chapter 4 of Volume 3 with a total word count of 42,000 words in roughly 18 days (holy crap!). Due to real life stuff I've been slacking off on getting more writing done.

So! Again I throw the (proverbial) tip jar out. If you like it, don't like it or have constructive criticism please, please, please PM it to me. I'm thick skinned and I do this for the love of writing, if I can enjoy it and help others enjoy it, I'd love to do so!

  • I would like more lesbians!

Still doing updates to those who might find it interesting. . . And thank you to those who comment via PM or email. We're at 45 thousand words (broken up into volumes and chapters, mind) so there's plenty for to read at any pace you like. If you enjoy it please let me know, it does help when actually writing 😛

  • Righty! So I'm on chapter 14 and sitting at about 55k words. . . Holy crap that's a lot of writing O_o

The update was just posted here, I highly suggest people start at the beginning if you've never read it but here's the link anyway.
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8011014/14/The_Missionary

I promise you, future volumes are not going to run this long-- ever again-- I've been trying to do some experimenting with style and such and while I'm not 100% on the mark, I think I'm getting closer to something that's more easily accessible in terms of ease of reading, flow and so forth. Please, let me know if something catches your fancy or doesn't work for you, you won't hurt my feelings.

  • Here I am to annoy you with stuff you probably don't care about anyway, hurray.

So I closed out volume 3 (finally) and I'm going to be starting volume 4 next week. . . I'd really, really, really (times infinity) love to hear what people think about this project. Good bad or indifferent so long as it helps me become a better writer (god knows I've got a lot to learn) so if you did take a look and enjoyed or didn't enjoy something, please let me know! In the meantime, have a safe and happy 4th of July to all those Americans out there.

  • Okay, so I've given the writing some tweaking. I'm aiming for a more direct style I hope works and I'd love to hear what people think.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8011014/17/The_Missionary

The new volume, Book Worms, has begun and will-- much like it's author-- be steadily updating through the week until it's inevitable downfall in a flaming ball of drunken rage.

Anonymous reviews have been allowed so if you read it over and decide 'hey I like/don't like this but I don't want to register an account just to tell the author what I thought' then don't worry, you don't have to! Just post it anonymously!

In seriousness, I would love to hear people's thoughts. Please feed the starving artist.

  • So once again, the silly writer wannabe comes by with the tin cup clinking some coins within it and offering stories for those interested.

I uploaded today’s chapters (two of them in one go, hurray) and noticed I hit the 70 thousand word mark today. That’s a pretty beefy piece of work. Additionally, it’s also the 20th chapter of the entire piece!

So yes, I’m here to promote the work (again) and continue to solicit reviews and people’s thoughts on it. Good, bad or otherwise. I’d love nothing more than to hear what people think works or doesn’t. I’ve been trying very hard to improve my writing style and making it more ‘direct’ without all the fancy adjectives and stuff. I’m hoping this’ll draw more interest but if something else needs to be improved (like grammar! ) I’d love to hear it.

At some point in the future when this is all written out and such, I do plan on going back and giving it a coat of gloss. Do some serious editing and making it somewhat print worthy. However I need to know what’s right or wrong with the piece to do so! Give it a read and if you like it, please drop a note on the reviews! If you don’t like it, drop one anyway! I know it seems daunting at first but you’re not required to read the whole thing to form an opinion.

Anyway. Quick links are below. R&R would be greatly appreciated.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8011014/1/ Volume 1 - Prologue

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8011014/17/The_Missionary Volume 4 - Book Worms

  • HELL YES!

  • pant

Okay, so. Volume 4: "Book Worms" just ended.

Insert usual begging for reviews and thoughts.

Going to be taking a 2-3 day break so I can recharge my batteries before we begin Volume 5: "Dangerous Game" Hope to see you there.

Volume 5: Dangerous Game just started.

  • A couple more chapters have been added to Volume 5. Should be done with it by Sunday at this rate.

Just a note, if you find this a bit verbose at the moment, I don't blame you. I'm going to be re-writing it once I get everything done. Yes, it's going to take a while, but I think it'll be worth it.

Still looking for people to say something does or doesn't work, as always. Thanks.

  • So! Volume 5 just closed out and I'm going to be taking a couple days for a break. Our current word count stands at 92 thousand words and we're more than half way done. So, if you like planar travel, mystery, lesbians and bad grammar give it a look. As for me, I'm gonna go take a nap.

  • Nice. The L word.

  • Yes, it's in jest.

I doubt many people read it anyway, so maybe the thought of girl kissing will drive traffic. Stranger things have happened!

cough But yeah, in seriousness. Check it out, post your opinion.

    Volume 6 starting.

So much for taking a break, man I'm gonna get fried before this is all over.

  • So, guess what! We just eclipsed 100,000 words! Now, there could be arguments made that that’s an arbitrary, worthless mark, but to me it means a lot of progress in my abilities, the story and writing in general.

It also makes me think to myself “Wow, self, you’re gonna have a ton of work to do when it comes to editing. ;_;” I suppose we’ll see, hm?

So how do we celebrate this? I don't know but I'd love to hear people's thoughts on it. Leave your ideas in the comments or PM them to me and I'll review then and maybe we'll see what we can get going.

  • So with the close of volume 6, I thought I’d re-post the little advert here. We’re down to 4 more chapters and then we’ll be done, then starts the long road of re-engineering things and putting it all together along with getting some cover/insert art (unfortunately, I’m so broke I can’t pay attention so that’s not been a possibility up to now.)

I’m burned out right now so forgive the brevity.
