I had to uninstall NWN to fix a problem that arose from using the texture override pack. On attempting to reinstal the game I have run into a problem. I have long since lost my original disks, and as such use ISO files to instal nwn. I did so successfully two days ago when I got my new computer, using my original CD Keys.

Things I have tried to resolve this include:

      • Trying several differant ISO mounting programs
      • Used several reg cleaning programs to clear up any instal residue that might be preventing me from reinstalling
      • Tried a second set of ISO files

All of them have resulted in the "Insert Play Disk" error when I try to load up the install ISO image. I cannot think of anything substantial that has changed with the computer or its settings since I installed nwn a couple days prior.

Hopefully the community can offer some insight into my problem.

      Cheers and thanks in advance.

Tried getting the critical rebuild of 1.69? It used to require the disk in older versions, but they removed that in the latter versions afaik.

        Edit: Oh, installing. Err, nvm.

        Snowball fight! Goooooooooo!

Have you been using Daemon Tools?

Have you tried downloading a different pack of CDs? Try using the Platinum or Diamond edition, where all the install disks are on the same DvD.

While we're on the topic, has anyone got a link to how to fix issues with NWN on Win 7?

Recently got another PC but it refuses to get past launch screen on the new rig.

Do a full on fresh install, use teh critical rebuild, then run it in compatibility mode for XP service pack two, and run it as admisnitrator

Running the launcher on Administrator Mode solves the problem for me.

I only had to run as admin… but I think I've installed using the critical rebuild anyway.

Check your disks, are they scratched or dirty?
another thing you could try but I am not sure if it works since nwn is multiple cds but you might copy everything on the disc in a folder on your comp then run the install without the discs. I've used this method to install a few games in the past but they only hand 1 disc…

if you cannot install at all from yuor discs, check if you can download it somewhere. if you can dowload it you can use your cd keys probably.

if its window 7 the problem then I've no clue. I have 7 also and never had problem with nwn on it installing or otherwise.

do a search to figure out what that file does and why it might bug. Is your disc 2 in good condition?

                                Delanish,

I had a similar problem in the past and done what Loonaya suggested, it also worked for me.

As it is it sounds like a scratched disc even if the scratch isn't obvious.

This happened with my HotU disc and I was getting similar messages to yours. This may sound counter intuitive but you can polish scratches out of the disc with toothpaste. Don't use a ton of pressure and work from the centre out to the edge, not around the disc in a circular motion. You're not looking to remove every mark on the disc, just polish it once around without missing a spot. Wash and dry both sides of the disc thoroughly and try it. If it doesn't work polish it again. I think I polished my disc about 4 times and tbh I never thought it would work but as the disc wasn't being read I had nothing to lose. Inserted the disc after 4 or 5 polishes and BANG! loaded straight up. I've installed maybe 3 times since then and the disc has been perfect every time.

If you can identify any particular files you need I'll be happy to mail them across to you.

Hope you get it sorted mate.

This is what I did to install nwn on widows 7

                                  Install off of the CDs.
                                  Run critical rebuild
Set the CPU affinity in multicore machines
Run in compatibility mode for windows xp service pack 2
                                  Run as administrator

At this point I had some issues with scaling that took me a bit to figure out. I finally got it working by fiddling with the scaling options in the nvidia control panel. I can't remember what I finally settled on setting-wise right at this moment. I'm running an xps m1730 with dual 8700m video cards. I had to disable sli in order to keep the game from crashing about a minute after loading up. I hope you can get it working and good luck!

Keep in mind that you may use your CD keys to install your copy from different source than the CDs you bought the game with, as mentioned before. I m not sure on the legality of the thing, but in essence you do install software you own. If the cds are scratched I see no other way.

Another thing to remember is that if you keep the installation folder backed up, you can transfer it wherever in your hard disk you want and play from the nwn.exe file without even installing the game. I even run the thing from a USB flash drive.

So keep a backup of the installation folder somewhere, it may come handy.
