Graphical performance issues. Minor
-
Hi,
Got a new laptop a while back, it's got pretty nice specs, and a half decent graphics chipset.
it also runs win7 64 bit.
Managed to get nwn to run without too much of a hitch to be fair, but the game slows down when there are lots of objects on screen.
It's not lag, it's actual graphical performance. Which seems weird considering the specs the machine has.
This something to do with nwn being old, or are there settings I could try?
Lowering graphics settings in game appears to change nothing. Hard drive is 7200 rpm.
My old laptop had some performance problems, just seems odd I can play fallout 3 on high Gfx but nwn freaks out.

Are you using the Microsoft drivers or the Graphics Card Manufacturer's drivers. I had serious problems with my Graphics performance when building my new PC until I had time to download and install the latest Manufacturer drivers.

Downloads the latest drivers from lenovo, the company that supplied the laptop. Formerly IBM I think.
So yes, using the most up to date drivers compatible with the machine.
I also turned off all power saving settings, some gfx cards slow down tonsave power and stuff.

Any other software running, using up resources, CPU, memory, etc.? Virus Scanner, indexing service? What does the task manager say?

Ill check the task manager out and write a .bat file to close all un necessary/ unknown processes when I get back. Good thinking, I have been installing tons of stuff recently with it being new and all. Maybe there's some sucky background junk bundled with it I don't about.

yeah or perhaps updates downloading in the Pentabytes ;-)
