    City of Arabel

The year is 1359, 7 years after a successful revolution and rebellion by those who supported the Now-Called Faceless King, Gondegal. Seven years of hard fought trials, tribulations, have turned Arabel into a prosperous state that is in constant conflict with its neighbors as Gondegal seeks to spread his vision of the overthrow of Old Powers across the land create a new world order, calling it the Revolution.

Arabellan Society has essentially been turned upside down. Former loyalties to Cormyr are now criminalized- to speak well of the "Great Enemy," the Purple Dragon, lands people in the stocks, and in jails if the behavior persists. Rabble Rousers speak of 'Cormyrian Raiders' that plunder and rapine villages (whether they are true or not is left unclear) and demagogues speak of the "Old Nobility" in the same manner they speak of an orc or goblin- inbred swine that held back the will of the People in favor of their own profits. The Old World, they say- is now gone, in favor of a fresh new Era of the Common People, where the First Among Equals leads us, the Faceless King Gondegal. He does not show his face for we are all Kings, brothers- in command of our own destiny and talent- where we may do with our lives as we please.

The taxes are always low, production always goes up, farm yields never falter. That is the word on the street, it is what the people read, it is all they hear. Anything that does not speak well of the regime does not last long upon the streets- and if the perpetrator is caught, they are clearly seeking to overturn the Revolution that the people fought and bled for- truth is what the Faceless King says it is, and he is never wrong- as his vision shall lead us into a new era.

Of course, there are powers outside the Faceless King- or as some whisper, the Ghost King- the Frightened Traitor. Misrim, a house that seems to embody all the tenants of the Old Nobility- their arrogance, wealth- and even mannerisms regularly flies its colors through the street, its retainers collecting 'dues' from the various merchants who have taken loans from its bank and other legal practices. One of the prominent supporters of Gondegal's rebellion- the rabble rousers often conveniently ignore the glaring embodiment of what they dubbed the "Old World" that walks the street, making money off the hard labor of the common people...

Then there are the chaotic mercenaries with a heart of gold. Led by House Vaylan, more importantly, the Crimson Vipers they often brawl with the Rabble Rousers- their disagreements becoming violent as they often proudly proclaim their loyalty to the Revolution while addressing the Bullshit in the streets that the common people hear. Called the House of Prisoners (for the time each member of the House often gets thrown into cells) Vaylan claims to the largest armed force in the city, and more than once the Crimson Viper has flexed its muscle by demonstrating 'patrols' through the city to remind people who has the most swords in the city- and if they so chose, they can do more than just drink their pay in the local bars....

Looming over the City lies that Tower of Raubagaush, where many forbidden experiments take place. Considered the prison of a criminal mage for the longest time, Gondegal personally threw open the doors of the Prison of Raubagaush, and embraced the withered looking wizard. The Archmage now holds numerous apprentices and powerful mages in his tower as they constantly ward and protect the Demonic Seal that lies in the depths of the Tower- preventing a catastrophe from eclipsing Arabel, and arguably, the realms as we know it. Yet- all are fully aware that amongst these gently smiling mages, lies the heart of a cruel and calculating wizard, for all acts are legal to the Arcanist Society of Raubagaush, any magical experiment is permitted as long as it does not harm any innocent person. For now, the people keep a wary respect for the mages and their self-restraint, but the discontent murmur their fretful thoughts, and then glance over their shoulder- for a mage that may or may not be there...

Outside the city walls, though- lies a beacon of truth, justice, and law. The chaotic city politics influenced, albeit slightly, by a heretical order of knights known as the Servants of the True Sun- and they more or less govern the hinterlands surrounding the city of Arabel. Fair in their actions, just in their approach- the Heretics of the Risen Sun preach that Lathander is but a name for Amaunator- and that the TRUE SUN shall shine once more on Gondegal's Kingdom, bringing with it justice and prosperity. They represent a sliver of the times where Cormyr ruled- where Noble Privilege, and not hearsay- is what determined your fate. Farmers are quick to convert to gain favor from the Knights, and their Lord Commander- the beloved Daughter of the Sun, gazes upon Arabel with ambition in her fiery eyes of a city eaten alive by its own poison and vitriol...
