A few months. The entirety of my time in Arabel is but a few cycles of the moon yet more change has come than in lifetimes. I have watched the throngs come through Arabels’ gates seeking safety to find themselves now prisoner to a master less forgiving. Many things can be said of rot; all pale in comparison to the disease that can overtake a man’s heart – his very soul.
Many things happen as it festers. For one, vision alters as she becomes not woman of justice but vengeance. For another, forced apathy befalls where in there is only survival. Caring begins with family and friends then recedes to family as thoughts turn from who is loved to whom is useful. In the end they are left with self preservation. All the while rationalizing behaviors by balancing them against others. Worse yet, forgetting themselves and relishing their life at the cost of any, thankful that singular voice is overtaken by crowds.
Most base are the vile excuses for humanity that use current climate to amass pleasures with the power and steel they hold. They paint their portraits of greatness with palette of thievery, rape, and murder. Boasting of their sins and demeaning or brutalizing any that would defy their doing so. Reveling in their ill-gained gold and station. May we never reach a day when children look up to them instead of the righteous.
Indeed few now take up the banner of righteousness. Fewer still can blame them. In this ebony blanket they stand out like lightening bugs to be gathered for sport. Glowing memories of days forgotten that fade in jars of glass unfed. Thus we dip further in to a colorless world. Father Hennington always said it is darkest before the dawn.
This morning a lady entered the gate in a simple blue robe held fast by a grey sash. Her face was not turned toward the ground and her will unbroken. Captured, I had no choice but to follow her steps from a distance. Hope swelling inside with each step as I saw that most rare. Strength coupled with humility.
Walk with me if you will and we shall follow her together….learning the strides and temperance of a hero.
Expect further chapters in the future.

// This kind of stuff can go in diaries unless the library is actually asking you to put it in. More likely, what is here is something they'd throw out as it really isn't important.
