Application Process for Perks

  • DMs

Here is the format for what an application should look like. We ask for applications whenever a player may get a perk that benefits your character. In return, we ask that you tell us exactly what you'll do in game to keep things fun for other players. Applications are pretty simple, but the easiest path is to ask a DM in Discord to discuss your ideas prior to sending them in, but that's obviously not required!

    • Topic Title: Account name you will use for this character/Character name/what you are applying for
    • 1). Race/Class/Alignment/Level/Name of Character you're asking a perk for?
    • 2). What specific perk(s) are you hoping to gain?
    • 3). What specifically will you do in game to entertain other players if you get this perk? This can include a general outline of goals, plans, or storylines to pursue; but really we hope to hear what you'll do to make it fun for other players if you get this perk.
    • 4). If you're not applying on your normal log-in or handle, what accounts have you played under?
    • 5). Optional: Provide a very brief background of your character if it will be helpful to understand the application, but please keep it short and to the point. Feel free to include your character's strengths or weaknesses here.
    • 6). Optional: If applying for a non-standard (sub)race, it is helpful to indicate how you plan to roleplay it, ideally, we want to ensure you understand the subrace and can portray its characteristics in game, or understand how to validate a deviation from its typical portrayal.
    • 7). Optional: If applying for a lycanthrope, tell us here what makes your character shift to were-form.

You can copy the Markdown code below (to save you the trouble of applying the syntax in yourself).
Or refer to the Quick Markdown Guide To apply your own fancy syntax.

Please try to keep the information summarized and succinct.
It's better to make a summary and include a longer version in a spoiler tag for those interested than it is to have a wall of text.

Before submitting your app, make sure to add a Voting Poll to your post so that the dm's can vote on your app. You can do this by clicking on the Create a Poll button above the text box when making a post. Just set the poll options to "Yes" and "No" and you're done!

Simply navigate to the Applications section by clicking on this link then click on New Topic to Submit your Application.

    • Warning: You will not be able to see other topics in the Application section, when DM's are ready to discuss your app, they will move it to a section where you will no longer be able to see the contents of your app.

Dm's will need time to vote on your app and discuss it, once the dm's finished voting, the app gets put in a confirmation period which takes 24 hours (this gives dm's who didn't vote the time to chip in any concerns or opinions they might have missed, or give some dm's who haven't voted the time to do so).

In short, give the dm's at-least 72 hours before asking them if your app has been approved or not. It's completely fair to ask a DM for their opinion or concerns on your app during this time, but please don't spam them.

**Please note, that it is the player's responsibility to follow up with his application once it's submitted. The DM team receives a vast amount of applications, and we sometimes overlook a few. If you haven't received any word, please contact the team.

Also keep in mind, a check once every few days is more than sufficient. Asking every few hours is not going to get your application discussed any faster.**

Here is an Example, with explanations of what the DMs are trying to figure out from your application.

    1). Race/Class/Alignment/Level/Name of Character you're asking a perk for?
Human, Cleric, Chaotic Evil, 7, Mandarin Dreagle
2). What specific perk(s) are you hoping to gain?
Recognition as Official Clergy for faith of Ghaunadaur
3). What specifically will you do in game to entertain other players if you get this perk? This can include a general outline of goals, plans, or storylines to pursue; but really we hope to hear what you'll do to make it fun for other players if you get this perk.
Mandarin cleric of Ghaunadaur, he takes adventures to do quests in the sewers with as many players as I can recruit; using the quest to spread his dogma to recruit PC cultists.
((Why would a DM like this, its just questing? Well, because its involving many players in doing quests instead of taking optimal 'parties' to two or three man them and you're encouraging roleplay on the quest so its not just grinding for XP-its ADVENTURE!))
Found a slimy club one day in the sewers as part of a DM quest. He's going to attempt to collect magical reagents and take people exploring dungeons in the module looking for material to 'bless' the club and grant it greater powers as a relic of the faith.
((Doing a DM event doesn't impress DMs at all! But responding to a DM event to find new ways to continue the story or build on it is pretty creative and again, this is getting players to go out in groups and do things and could create conflict with rivals who want to ensure this goal is not met.-Its ADVENTURE and INTRIGUE))
Attempting to get two PCs in his current cult to infiltrate the militia to undermine it from within and recruit NPC militia (by adding slimes and fungal spores to their food to corrupt them-which we gather on quests)who will help him cover up the murders of the high priest of Bane and Tyche; as the final step of 'blessing' his club relic]
(DMs typically aren't thrilled seeing NPCs murdered, but here there is a clear story, an evil cult, and the goal would be the villainous culmination of a plot that adventurers can try to stop at goal one and two--its also INTRIGUE and COA SIMS recruiting NPCs).
4). If you're not applying on your normal log-in or handle, what accounts have you played under?
Originally played as Oroborous (We just wnt to know who you are!)
5). Optional: Provide a very brief background of your character if it will be helpful to understand the application, but please keep it short and to the point. Feel free to include your character's strengths or weaknesses here.
Crazy cultist of Ghaunadaur, his mind snapped when his wife died; he devoured her so she'd remain a part of him forever. Sometimes, he thinks he sees her speaking to him and advising him. Could be he's nuts, could be Ghaunadaur fooling him--up to a DM if it even matters. (Seriously, feel free to keep this short, too long and you're asking 5 people to take a half hour of playing the game with you to read these!)
6). Optional: If applying for a non-standard (sub)race, it is helpful to indicate how you plan to roleplay it, ideally, we want to ensure you understand the subrace and can portray its characteristics in game, or understand how to validate a deviation from its typical portrayal.
(Let's say Mandarin wasn't human, but was an Ooze Genasi: As an ooze genasi, he's naturally selfish and physically repulsive, members of this race typically lack charisma and Mandarin has several repulsive habits and an appearance that makes many oppose him and quickly recognize he is a hideous being; including cannibalism, his own insanity, and a constantly dripping nose and gargling voice, emoting constantly the stench of his body from the sewers and his own over-active sweat glands)
7). Optional: If applying for a lycanthrope, tell us here what makes your character shift to were-form.
(And let's say he was a wererat infected in the sewers Mandarin is a naturally vicious but cowardly creature. He often leaves victims and opponents alive so he can gloat over them about which of their organs he'll eat first, shifting into rat form to devour them. However, if he's ever outnumbered by foes outside the sewers, he'll quickly shift form and flee into them seeking safety.)

Some ideas to keep in mind when you have a special perk character granted via the application process.

    • If your application has been approved, you are taking on a degree of responsibility that you will try to make the server more entertaining for you and those around you. Those who are OOCly inconsiderate of others will not be approved for anything, ever.

    • In case of applications where it makes sense to have achieved things in game before applying, such as PrCs or faction spots or promotions, instead of GOALS, you will be expected to send a list of ACCOMPLISHMENTS that you have under your belt to date. You can provide goals if you wish, but we will be focusing on what you have done to earn the perk by doing fun things in game that keep other players logging in.

    • The DMs reserve the right to retire any perks or concepts that simply are not delivering after a substantial period of time. The DM team would like to stress that this will not be held against you for future applications. Concepts fall flat for anyone. Some concepts look better on paper than they do in game. However, a concept that never takes off and just sits around while still retaining all perks is something that's unfair to the playerbase as a whole.

    • However, if applications follow a repeated trend of not delivering, it will be considered for future applications.

    • A high level character is one who should be at the apex of his career, one who has "been there, done that", someone who has become a legend in their chosen profession, ready to start his own major plot factions, or retire and rest on his laurels. Characters of high levels with few achievements may find they have a hard time joining factions, gaining access to 'events,' or garnering special rewards, application or otherwise.

    • tl;dr - Your app should focus on how you are going to make things fun for other people, as well as (with subraces) how you are going to portray your perk. If you do not perform adequately, we will remove these perks._

Your application will be processed faster if you add a poll. Please do so. Don't make the spiffy angry.
