Does the druid class description need updating still?
Specifically in regards to this:

Traditionally, violence between circles is forbidden, and differences are settled by challenge by a ranking druid NPC, a Hierophaunt, Great Druid, etcetera. The challenge can be of many forms, it can be strength, wisdom (ability to understand the world around them) logic (the world operates by certain principals after all) or by going on a quest and resolving some manner of threat to nature, and thus having the providence of the Spirits.
However, this is merely tradition, and there are plenty of rogue circles who do not adhere to the edicts of the Great Druid or Arch Druid of a region- however, normally, the correct thing to do in this case is merely challenge the druid in question and contest their right to prevent you from doing what you desire. Ignoring the edicts of a ranking druid can hold certain consequences."
This is what I was told in game within the past 6 months while playing a druid and interacting with other druids (ooc as well as ic if i remember correctly)
The clarification might be that this only holds within a particular druid circle/organization, and not for a given region?

What are you asking to be clarified specifically?
Druids seek to understand the world. Their philosophies might differ, and so to prevent unwarranted destruction of the world, they try and keep their disputes in control via challenges by higher ranking and often more wise druids.
Seems clear cut to me.

The circles are mostly there to provide the setting details + life it might otherwise lack for nature pcs. Players, as always, are free to do their own thing.

Basically, they are background flavour and players can make what they like of them or make their own.
