CoA Intrigue - Living World
-
As a returning player who has played NWN off and on for a long time, I must admit I am very surprised and greatly enjoying an aspect I see going hardcore on CoA right now. The world appears as a Living World with issues and details that are associated with such. Dont get me wrong, still plenty of orcs to go beat up and such; however other aspects also play a large role.
NPCs and NPC populations are being treated as real things that have needs. Deals for food, lumber for construction, and all of that are important goals that are being worked towards in addition to the more traditional fighting aspects. This really opens the world for me personally as a player.
I am not the greatest at mechanics. One frustration I sometimes experience is situations where character concepts and their execution matter far less than who can beat up who in regards to impact on the setting. By treating the world as a living world you give a lot of room for characters (and their players) who are far less mechanically powerful to have a major impact on the server.
This is really awesome and causing me to rethink my approaches to characters as whole avenues are opened up! Thanks for all the fun so far!
