Contest: Who Did Cassiel Leave His Kingdom To?
-
Foxmantle is a brilliant idea! I don't know that they were even friendly, but they certainly dealt with one another. Foxmantle was a member of the Fivestars that Cassiel owned stock in.
In my opinion, the exact NPC is something we can't decide on, but I would very much like to see Sembia represented in some way, here. The Sembites have only played proxy wars so far, so it would be neat to see them take a stronger position in the region.
But here's another suggestion. Cassiel was mostly without family, and certainly without an heir. He however, was close to Gondegal, who's vision he shared, and was fond of Gondegal's illegitimate son, whom Cassiel leaves the East Way to. In honor of his dead father, and his dead mentor, he establishes the East Way as the capitol of the reborn Phoenix Kingdom, where he sits as king, but abolishes nobility and enforces a rule of council and coin.

Well, the Zhentarim already have a garrison bordering the East Way. So, with the argument that 1+1=2, the Zhentarim should take control of the village.
…please?
-
He left it to a druid obvously, possably to a unknown druid npc who just about to get the shock of his/her life!
Now that be a plot twist!
-
JAM FOECHUCKLE!
And in all seriousness: I wouldn't mind seeing maybe Maleen? Mages Guild moved to Eastway Hm?
Or heck… Maybe while searching someone taps into some weird curse and BOOM! Insta Animal kingdom! Would be interesting to see with the Druids and what not...

_Cassiels fiercely loyal officers and clandestine second-in-commands take over and create a temporary council where they rule the former kingdom though their secret meetings. Few, if anyone, know who all the members are and a new direction is chosen for the young nation. The alliance with the weakened Zhentarim is discarded and the Hullack garrison is expelled suddenly. Grim dwarves from Thunderholme are seen marching in in larger numbers, working alongside the sheriffs to reenforce the city and its defenses from outside threats.
East Way becomes a fortified city, much like Zhentil keep where the councils iron fist keep complete control over their lands together with a strong alliance with the dwarves. Trades and taxes ensure great wealth and despite little personal liberty inside the borders of the nation, wealth grows and conditions improve as the prudent council build their capital and its forces._
Or have the Pilgrims return and take control over the cemetary, thus controling the city by fear of the undead horrors that lie just by. The cemetary is sealed off and only by paying great sums are the bravest adventurers allowed inside. No mourning is felt for those who vanish and join the ranks of the dead.

He left it to a former Legion buddy of his
Gave it all to a sembian noble family to continue his work
Left it for his wife to run it - return of Thond! They used to be a fun faction. Maybe something like that but with a new twist to it. Look Pa, I'm a queen now! -
I love lilesmurfen's suggestion too.
-
He gave it to Bubba…

Enough said.

Without knowing too much due to my return to the server leaving me lacking much ooc I saw Cassiel right away as a smart and educated man well versed in politics and always seemingly knowing what was to come. Even with his death he would most likely anticipate his eventual assassination and prepare the village for such so as to further his plans even in death. I don't feel it would be easily overrun by Cormyr, Arabel, or the Zhents. Instead I feel his need to claim right over things by having others acknowledge it and using the law to further his own agenda would leave the well groomed heir or even a member of the Sheriffs themselves as a viable IG progression should the druids not take over by force of necessity to save their glade. Should the sheriffs win out it would go to the heir or the smartest and conniving of the bunch and should the druids take control a new village of balance would take over. I don't understand the undead taking over since they were never really a threat as I saw it. But that's my two cents to the political state of the East Way.

This is Arabel.
Let player action or inaction decide what happens to East way.

A member of the Venieth family, I think that was the name of the family Cassiel originally served? Could be a chance to introduce a new character. I remember on ToM we had the Mayor that I’m sure the DMs can remember the back-story to, I always loved that angle. Instead of gaining prestige through a blunder s/he could do it through inheritance.
Agreed, an NPC who's not quite the full ticket would be great - gives PCs the chance to get one over on him and really shape the game world a little. Cassiel reminded me of Bhaliir in a way, seeing everything all the time, having the total opposite would be groovy.
-
I'd personally find it most interesting if you left it up to players IG actions to decide who takes over. Have one of the Sheriffs take a tenuous position as leader, and have the leaders of the various factions inform their players that they all want eastway for themselves. Then let the fun begin.
-
Perhap's Cassiel's bastard son? (that is, if he had any) Perhaps somebody else in his family line, or even a few people would trod over "claiming" the kingdom for themselves starting a small civil war in the already small kingdom. Perhaps there could be a rapid succession of kings because constantly more and more opponents would show up trying to claim the throne for themselves?
-
Bhaliir.
Somehow, Please.

Personally, I do not like the idea of letting players decide. Cassiel was paramount in making th Sheriffs what they are. He "represented" them, and the way they worked/acted. A new boss should be as similar to him as possible, or we risk to change the flavour of the whole faction.
-
It's a close call between Bhaliir and Mitchell Deschurr.
Whatever it's going to be, it'll be written underneath a crossed out "Alistair".

If the new boss is a Cassiel Clone, then just raise Cassiel from the dead.
