I'd like some suggestions about how to come up with and push alternative player created plots that don't involve gathering X amount of A, B and C, and that require minimal amount of DM support and involve other people and are also fun and interesting to be a part of.

EDIT: The OP sounded like a rant and was confusing, so I changed it to something simple and straightforward.

      Character:

John De'Notrevá: "Through honor, loyalty. Through loyalty, unity. Through unity, strength!"

If your an established character you could pay other adventurers to go get those things for you.

grinding for reagents before the plot is the dumbest thing. and going to all the places to pick up hedge reagents so you can carry them around for months is only preventing other characters from finding them and doing their own plots. countless times getting groups together and going to the haunted halls to find it had been picked clean has made me hate the place tbh.

I'm quitting Barabus Fen, he was a character I made for the election and in retrospect I should have quit him after the result as you can only wander around insulting Verks clergy robes for so long before it gets old.

Play an interesting character, that does interesting stuff that involve other players. Oh and be sure to communicate what you are doing to the dm team. It really is that simple. Spending more time outside of quest zones helps too.

I don't mind the exploring rare places for there hedge magic items but scripted quest specific ones are seem like an excuse to farm a scripted quest i prefer variety my quests

                      For example
Oh i need 4 Dragon Blood Rubies So i better farm Toy shop quest after every server reset until i get them all.

I may have lost the idea with all the editing but I agree that grinding sucks, but I only see it done like, once every huge plotline. If that.

I think the time of grocery lists died a few months ago

Its like he channels dead crazy people or something!

                          Hi, I'd like a plot.

<pony_knight>"And in this land I'll proudly stand
                          <pony_knight>Until my dying day, sir;
                          <pony_knight>For whate'er a king o'er all command,
                          <pony_knight>I'll still be a Cormyte brave, sir."</pony_knight></pony_knight></pony_knight></pony_knight>

Think of something big and interesting to do. Most things worth doing don't start with "Gather X and then X will happen", that's not a plot, more like an event or a rung of the ladder as you attempt to do something interesting.

Pick an idea that'll interest you, but is also big and controversial enough to get people both on your side and opposing you. Try and pick something where you can think of some steps that you might take on the path to complete the story. Things are much more interesting when you actually can think of something to do to become "God of Cheese-snacks" rather than just walking around saying "Look at me, I'm going to be the god of cheese-snacks! Aren't I an interesting character who will make everyone laugh for a few days?"

The god of cheese-snacks example is actually able to give you a good idea of what might be interesting; It's a concept that obviously people would be interested in opposing or siding with for various reasons (Being on the goodside of a future god, or stopping the evil new cheese-snack god). And there are some interesting things you could attempt to do that should be pretty obvious and will attract attention to you and generate PC interest for your cause; Persuade people to serve you as either worshippers or just thugs who give some kinda lip service, attempt to gain land for a temple dedicated to your cheesy dogma somewhere, have your thugs and you get involved in plots involving powerful religious items and convert them to your cheesey will to provide you with some of the power you claim to have.

You'll find that as long as you're doing something big and interesting enough to get players intrigued, and you're actively out doing things other than questing and sitting in the adventurer's guildhall claiming to be the cheese-god then DMs will probably take notice and start giving you a hand. Even if we don't see your character alot IG we can usually tell who's off doing important things because every DM faction will have a file on them saying something like "OMG! Evil guy haz lots of minions an' iz eb0l! Stop duh evil cheese god 4 Nobanion! Go Knights!" or "OMG! Potential eb0l cheese-ally also looking 4 duh staff uv Trom! Go Zhents!" and that's usually a good indication that we should keep an eye on you and toss some plot hooks your way.

                            Hopefully some of that helps.

PS: Collect X, X, and M isn't a plot. That's just some task we'll give out when players come asking "How can we further X?", like if some paladin asks Tormy McTormnpc how to make Bane less sassy, the NPC might give the PC a shopping list of stuff to do.

In the end unless its part of a bigger project you don't really accomplish anything other than the satisfying feeling of making Bane less sassy.

I said I wanted a plot, not a paragraph way too long to read on how to get one.
