Decent Weaponry.
-
In response to a few people muttering about the lack of the Old Crafting system and the ability now to obtain decent weapons, I thought I'd pose the question in open forum. In the current environment, how do you go about locating a weapon of significance? I've seen them around, and I have also had problems obtaining them for some characters. Other character's I've had have had little problem getting nice gear.
@Question:
What do you class as a decent weapon?
@Question:
How do you go about obtaining the weapon of your choice?
This is not supposed to be a debate about the old crafting system, but a debate about how to obtain the things we want with the current system.

A decent weapon:
+1 EnchancedA awesome weapon:
+1 Enhanced, +d4 damAs far as how - I don't expect to find even a "decent" one easily, or in a short time. They're rare, and I think thats fine.

You don't need good weapons, you just need to plead and cry and beg for your party's wizard to enchant your weapon! :D

There is a few "holes" in the shopping market at the moment for decent weapons in all the types.
I consider decent something that fundamentally can damage creatures with DR, mostly undead and outsiders, however I feel dome character might prize other traits, like notable energy damage or poison.
However I hated the old system were you just went to a player crafter in the city and got it done for gold. On the other side I love exploring!
So perhaps in a similar way to the exploration exp markers you could have the once in character lifetime "Enchantment marker" with some kind of obvious flavour text and graphic.
Also to avoid the super weapon effect, make it only effect unenchanted weapons and having one stops the other enchantment markers functioning for you.
For a taste of what I think would be cool…
Purity
Flavour text: This pool seems to glow with a inner light as if it’s the water of the heavens themselves, you feel that if you placed a blade in it. That blade would itself turn heavenly.
Effect: +2 AB vs undead and outsiders + 1 divine damage vs evil
Flames of Kossuth
Flavour text: The alter before you bares the holy symbol of Kossuth and the following inscription "Let he who hearts burn with the passion of flame place there blade and know that shall always have the Firelords fury in there hands
Effect: D6 fire damage
It also make it more interesting if you need some kind of sacrifice item that’s tricky to get hold of, if only to stop people getting huge parties together and everyone grabbing a enchantment in one trip, it should feel a suitably epic moment when you acquire such a item, but it should also be a event that any character who’s 6+ can actually do if they put there mind to it and do more than questing.

Or find consumables IG to make your weapons more awesome.
+1 weapons or equivalents can also be found in shops and quests.
I'd say they aren't that rare and are actually very much available.
Since the old crafting system was removed, I'd dare say that the variety of weapons used has increased which is in my opinion, awesome.
You'll often see characters switching between several weapons based on the situation instead of have one "Weapon X" +1 that does everything since its +1.
So basically to answer both your questions:
A decent weapon would be something special. If not +1 then something with increased criticals, elemental dmg, keen, etc.
I generally try to pick a weapon type to fit the background but then I go with what I find IG. I don't go out looking for a weapon of my choice.
