How much would you pay per item for storage?
-
I would say 100 gold per item no matter the size, for each time you put it in, just to keep things simple to be honest.
Of course, players would NOT be allowed to store plot items as usual.
–
Example:
Bob has a fullplate, Bob goes to storage chest and pays 100 gold to put fullplate inside for unlimited time.
Bob comes back and picks up his fullplate to quest, after the quest Bob comes back with his fullplate and pays 100 gold to store it again.
(Bob dies and his chest is never touched again, after 6 months Bob's chest is emptied for it has been inactive for more than 3 months.)
--
Bracket thing in case size may become an issue, I do not know if it is but just in case. Players who warn DMs of long inactivity could also avoid this.
-
would advise a much shorter long term time (outside of players who informed a DM of long absence) - otherwise could get into issues of massive amounts of items being stored (though i'm not even sure how that would effect things, i assume it'd cause lag?).
Also like the idea of a 1 time fee for unlimited storage. 100 coins per item sounds fair to me and obviously could be changed as needed.
-
Fine Puffy, share your better ideas. NOT LIKE I HAVE FEELINGS OR ANYTHING!
This could lead to so pretty fun auctions though. I think it would be fun if all the stuff left in these chests got collected into a mega chest, and every 6 months the DMs hosted a super-auction to sponsor city buildings or estates.
Take THAT!

I'm just lazy, doesn't mean it is a better idea ;)
-
could the items that get left in for a certain time being untouched get auctioned off?
-
This is to give rich/high level/powerful characters/factions something useful to spend their gold on, so we do want it to cost something that actually matters, but not so much no one uses it.
The exact mechanics of it aren't important (As they are already worked out)
Just after the general price per item per week people would pay.
-
The Embassy rents storage for 500/week, and I haven't put a limit on the number of items.
Just saying.
-
I've never been Rich -and- high level. How does it work?
-

Somewhere in the realm of 25-50 coins a storage space might be reasonable.
Realistically if it' costs too much to upkeep, it will not be used.
Still, this would be great to have as the primary things that keeps me from doing mining trips on my miner-cleric is the lack of space to store the ore, and the consistent problem of encumbrance. I've seen many players throw away great items or interesting weapons/armor because they were -slightly- worse then what they had and they have no way to keep ti.
-
I wouldn't pay a single coin for storing something if I had to pay for each transaction.
Can't currently remember, but I'd pay a few hundred a month for a safe storage.
By safe I mean I have the key… if it can be stolen in PvP, it's even more fun! -

And don't want to spend half an hour mvoing at ultra-slow to put it in the Charity Chest. If their ore (or whatever) could be stored, then that +1chainmail might make it back to be sold/gien to someone else/put in charity chest.
I also like AronFF's idea of a key. Add to it a room with numbered boxes like RL (but the key is unnumbered) ,.. and put a limit on # of boxes you can try per day (because some attendant would be suspicious if you try a key in a LOT of boxes,, one or two next to each pther, sure) and it adds all sorts of interesting interaction possibilities such as people passing a key around to others to try more boxes to figure out how to get into it.
With stealable keys added in, then perhaps it would be OK for heavy "plot" type items to be kept in (Non-faction) storage as they could be stolen.

I doubt I would spend money on it at all if it was recurring. I might pay per item as I dropped it into the "locker" as per Puffy's suggestion. 50-100/item.
