COA 'notable events' comic / COA paper
-
I was thinking it might be cool to use a pc and like have them involved in doing a paper or… something that takes some of the updates or events and makes them entertaining for people.
i like comics and graphic novels and know a few... but more importantly, we have some regulars in COA who are artists...
I don't know that I'm ready or willing to do this as some kind of consistent thing... but I was wondering what other people think, especially some of the COA artists, about picking some events/ rumours/ plotz etc and have a 'paper' come out, that rather than being a blow by blow chronicle, is kind of vague and has a big cool stylish picture of like a notable scene that captures the feeling maybe people had or whatever...
Starting really small, just pick some things to do some cool pictures for... maybe some of it could end up getting used on the webpage, or whatever.
O, I know there is a page lizard or someone did about the notable npc's, like having sketches for some of them that people would know...
Maybe we could even tie it in to donations... create a 'bounty list' of scenes people want a portrait of, and the artists that have offered could invest a certain amount of time based on the size of the donation maybe?
I donno.
I'm tempted to just do some sketches myself, even tho my art skills are pretty weak, and like see if it catches any of the skilled artists interest to do some nicer versions...
Or maybe different people could just pick different scenes they were interested in drawing or whatever.
ok its kind of late i think i'm rambling. we'll see if this project is still in my head a weak from now.
if my drawings sucked too much, then maybe i would make a collage of internet images merged in a photo editor etc, ie a picture of a real castle, with a real knight, an amazing artists picture of a dragon or whatever...
i guess there could be copyright issues tho... yeah rambling.could edit screen shots too. i think the cam is too hard to control to get really good screen shots sometimes, but screenshots could set the scene, than use closer ups and stuff.
man i think may has 3d queues for facial expressions and phonemes, so you can like make people say things without having to draw the mouth shapes accurately by hand every time...
ok done.

Youfired once played a bard who wrote a weekly newspaper but it seems the images all got removed. It was a really good way to recap a bunch of major/minor events that happened

I did one a while back… Then got pissed because Youfired's was better. Can make for a fun concept depending on what you do with it, I'd encourage people to consider it.

It's been done and done well. Youfired's one was great, total unequivocal media bias on the part of that character. Loved it. Highly recommend it for you if you'd like to do one, there is a bit of work involved and I think your biggest problem would be burn out.

Sometimes you can just make reports on certain major events as well, my librarian wrote reports on the Red Hart vs MG war.

Another good event report written by a player! viewtopic.php?t=162246

that's some cool stuff people posted…

If you want to do something similar, please go ahead! As long as it is CoA relevant, focusing on major happenings, events or even characters(not your own) is always fun. I will gladly help out giving ideas on how to gain more information IG, or what kind of subjects the library would pay for earning your character some money IG as well :)

hey puffy, what about a forum and dm faction for people who want to contribute? Would it be possible to have a public and member only section to something like this?
It would be cool if there was a dm supported faction helping to maintain/ create such a thing. It might be nice if people could be apart of this without necessarily having a dedicated character, or maybe that this faction wouldn't necessarily have to count against people not being able to join other factions… since I don't think anyone would want to stay in such a faction indefinitely if it kept them from getting involved in other coa important plots or groups with their characters.
whaddya think?

There's nothing against doing other factions with something like this and you could probably get a private forum if you had some members… That said I don't know why you would want to make it a DM faction. This is the type of thing that shines as a PC faction, you don't want DMs telling you how to run your creativity.
-
creativity is a good point dobby, although i guess i like the idea that others will be supported in doing it if i bugger off for a little while or forever…
-
Generate enough interest and others will keep it up. Though as I see often, when the leader of a PC faction disappears, the faction is quick to follow, sadly.

If you want to make a writer faction, start one IG! :)
Any writing submitted to the library get support, edits, suggestive addition or hints on how to develop the writing further. Start something IG, get people interested and then contact a DM for a PC faction forum when you got a group of 5+! Or, become a part of one of the new DM factions and use that to record the major events going on and the people in it already. There are lots of options out there
Otherwise you can just write stuff in a character diary and then submit it to the Library when you done all the research to see if there is anything else you need, or PM a DM for some help on the subject as you write it.
