I noticed that Ed Greenwood seems to answer mail from his fans.

For those of you uninformed, Ed Greenwood's the mastermind behind Forgotten Realms.

I was reading over some of his informal conversations with the Candlekeep forum and it suddenly struck me; why don't we write a letter to Ed, from City of Arabel?

I'm sure if he doesn't know we exist, he might be pleased to know.

Uhm.. what do we exactly want to tell him?

I'm reading a novel of him on my phone currently, and it keeps me choosing mass transport over bicycle. You can tell him that, at least.

          : P

If some poor English shows up in this post: and you're an English teacher, language-patriot or simply kind; please correct me. Thanks.

'there is a digital abode where the old (3.0) forgotten realms lives, a lone server survives in the depths of the net, kept alive by hardcore rp'ers who love to create stories in his (ed greenwood's) game world.'

            etc

Ed Greenwood once played on EFU. We (Caddies, mostly) murdered his PC. What would City Of Arabel do?

He played on EfU? That's actually really cool. It feels like EfU and CoA have a lot of crossover players. (I've played there too!)

EfU also murdered Elminster which I'm sure Ed didn't like

Yeah, question is what to say. I'm honestly not too familiar with how much input he had on Forgotten Realms.

                    How about…

Hello from the City of Arabel,

We are a roleplaying community on Bioware's Neverwinter Nights game that have been running a server since 2002 (earlier?). We've had great fun playing through events such as the Rise of the Shadovar and other canonical happenings outlined by the writers behind the Forgotten Realms. Our players and Dungeon Masters may have since made Cormyr unrecognizable (there is a nearby rift to the Far Realms, hidden in the ruins of a fallen Netherese city) but many traditional villains such as the scheming Red Wizards of Thay yet linger, hatching diabolical plots as is their nature in pursuit of personal power!

We wonder if you would do us the honour of prescribing a little story-arc that we can implement into our setting, where a city torn apart by calamity now houses the enterprising elite in a walled Citadel, and abandons its ruined outer-shell to be filled with criminals, cults and raiders. Something to bring a sense of hope to the outmatched adventurers of Arabel – or more to the tastes of the DM team, to crush that which remains!

From all of the Players and Dungeon Masters on CoA,
                    Thank you.

PS: If you are curious to know more, we have been making an effort to keep track of all the events that have defined our setting since its conception. Events sparked by DMs or the ingenious plotting of players, all have served to bring us where we are today, and we welcome you to have a browse if the fancy takes you

You might want to make sure the images actually link before sending that. Some of the images are broken

Not much to be done about that. Imageshack evidently took those ones down, and the timeline is a work in progress that has "brief" written all over it.

To imply this guy is a mastermind is troll enough I reckon. I would be curious what settings other than FR he might personally play, maybe hes got a bit of originality somewhere there.

Actually, Greenwood's original idea for the Realms was pretty unique and interesting. It got watered down. Originally, it was much darker and the pantheon more interesting and compelling. Of course, people could conclude otherwise if they don't know what they're talking about.

Imagine that, people on the internet who are uneducated about the topic at hand, despite easy access to this information you can find with a simple google search here.

In the future, there are two simple rules to remember:

                                NO SPITTING.

                                DO NOT CROSS MISTER MOLOCH.
