Hey, so I'd just like to say how much fun I'm having with my return to the server as Ulayne Umi once again. Although I rarely get the opportunity to play throughout the schoolyear, it is always a pleasure to return to the Arabel community during the summers.

So basically, while I'm having a ton of fun continuing to play my old character, I'm worried that I am not giving back to the server since I choose not to create "fresh blood", and that I might not be creating as much fun for other players as they create for me. I've been thinking what I can do, likely other than trying to make a new faction, which will involve lots of characters/players in a fun way.

One thing I thought of was this: Ulayne has been around for a while, not as long as some characters, but certainly for a long time on Arabel. Throughout the years, there have been a few characters and players that have really involved me in great things, and I'd like to give back to them as best as I can. I'm thinking of starting a series of short random adventures and expeditions done in memory of past characters that Ulayne wishes to memorialize. While the purpose of the expeditions would be to memorialize these characters, rather than to find treasure, I hope that the adventure part of it would attract characters who did not know the characters Ulayne wishes to memorialize. Does anyone think this might be fun?

It would likely be a short speech, prayer, followed by an adventure to the character's favorite place, or patrol of their favorite road. It might also include other ritualistic or memorial aspects. Does anyone have either advice on how I can make this more of an appealing adventure for current characters or advice on how it should be started?

I welcome all input, thanks so much for reading this!

First off, I'd either do the speech/prayer thing during the event, or not at all. I din't think many people really enjoy just sitting and listening to those.

Otherwise, I think it could be an interesting idea, as long as you make sure there is some danger in there (or just plenty of monsters to kill), since that tends to get people interested. For example, to memorializing a Purple Dragon you could go out into the wilds to hunt down an orc band (even a scripted quest would do), while telling the story of that soldiers exploits.

If you can fit it into a quest, it would probably help. That way you can still do the memorial aspect while you do the quest, but people will be far more inclined to come.

Ahhh, good ideas. I hadn't thought of dong scripted quests, to be honest. I'll definitely see if there are any that fit what I'm planning. But you're right, I'll have to give the speech during rather than before. Which is fair.

Also, I forgot to mention. I'd like to try to do at least one per faction, so if any factions were interested in trying to gain fame through the memorialization of their member's exploits, they could use it as a political tool as well. Unfortunately, Ulayne never knew any dead Red Harts or dead Zhents too well. However I already have ideas for the Mage's Guild, Cormyr, Team Elf, and a few others.
