So I hit level 8 a day or so ago, and I realized…I have stopped leveling. I've stopped questing. All I do is plot plot plot plot plot. I have no time for anything else, and if I do have time, there is no one to quest with.

Its sad. I have like 500 gold pieces that I can call my own, too many minions and associates to count, and I feel like I may have to beg for money soon. So many minions, I'm out of budget!

      Need to QUEST.

No biggie! I never had any money either. A solid direction to your character's action, however, easily gets you willing lackeys. Lot of fanatics out there in Arabel. Fanatics are free!

Forum warrioring though….mea maxima culpa :(

People involved in plots and factions should still be able to quest if they want. Really, if you find your questing time drop to zero and you don't like it, then you're probably involved in too many plots.

              1. You don't need to be involved in 'em all. Pick and choose what's important to your character, and what's not.

              2. Delegate, delegate, delegate!

                I love my plots.
I just wish I could actually profit from them.

I will probably have to set aside a day just to powerquest like crazy, before getting down to the plotting on every other day of the week…

Its tough choosing. All the plots are exciting. However, another thing to be aware of, is that if you take on every plot and are so focused that you don't have time for anything else, surprisingly, you will do well. The probably concequence of this is that a number of other people who have less game time than you will fail more frequently because they cannot put the time in to compete. This isn't a complaint but a probability. Goals and Plots depend on focus and time in game and on forums. If you can put more time in searching for items than another faction you stand more chance of success. If however, you focus on one or two plots, you'll do well on these, and another faction is likely to do well on another plot. As Eliphas mights say, its all about balance!

This is a game and if you find yourself becoming overwhelmed so that the enjoyment is lessening, you should consider what you're doing. Less is sometimes more as the paradoxical quote says. It's a game, so focus on what you find fun. For some, achieveing success in the plots drives the adrenalin and is what they play for. For others, its camaraderie. For others its powah qwesting. Not much is precluded, except griefing I suppose, though some folks frown on some things. Play the game, be considerate and have fun.

With House Obarstal, I am trying to balance gathering the team and doing scripted quests so that we develop a camaraderie and bonding as a group. I'm choosing to do this so that we learn each other's fighting styles and back each other up, still keeping the core that is why we're a faction, the plots. The other aspect I have found is that a faction that works together on quests and plots tends to grow together into something that is strong. A faction that is focused on just Plots or just Questing has more chance of fizzling because people become bored with quests and tired with dissapointment of watching others achieve success in plots.

From looking in, I see Qu'larg's lot doing this very well. You can see their impact on a number of plots and you can also see them questing together, but still inviting allies and others in. They are not an exclusive clique. They "train" together with others and the plot together and with other factions.

You can easily make gold off of plots, as well. It just takes more time and effort; the pay-off is great though, if you pull it off. Money is everywhere.

When I started playing Katelyn, my noble bonus was 1000 starting gold. I knew full well that the amount would never be enough to get done what I wanted.

Thus I looked around for a decent merchant with too much gold and I found Marin. And look and behold through IG development she is now the most trusted PARTNER I have ever had.

I think she and I combined have burned through… 60k in two months on plots and such.

In short there are ways to do this. Just have to be creative IG.

Character: Wouldnt you like to know?
Olouthitis: Character does awesome things for a few months, but inevitability hijacks an air ship and crashes it into an evil faction head quarters screaming battle cries.

From my experience, the answer is not to center yourself around plotting so much and definately not to let it get to the point where questing is done with the intent of making as much gold/xp as you can in as short a space of time as you can.

Sell information to other party's involved in those plots that way you control the flow of information to your enemy's and at the same time you get some gold to further your goals.

heh, I was joking in this thread.

But anyway, yeah, I think I just need to dedicate more time to mindless questing to get that gp up.

Mindless questing rapidly becomes mindless and boring. Develop some purpose behind questing. Commonly, this is focussed around training, which I've seen Marzoon do RP wise, very effectively. Gaining gold becomes a secondary, but useful purpose. Developing your faction though a certain amount of questing is, possibly, more valuable. Come up with a reason why you take your faction out questing. If you're the talent scout, you have a reason to kick off quests with random characters. If you're the training officer, again, you have a reason to take your faction out. Thirdly, if you want to make money, focus your questing on locating the uber gear that's out there occasionally on quests.

Marin earns gold through questing, but can earn far more gold though RP and Merchanting. If you have persistant storage, get out and market your goods! Find the hot stuff through questing and then sell it for mega bucks

I know exactly how your feeling here, had this with two of my characters, and had RL not got in the way, sure I would have had it with my Zhent ambassador too after some time.

As the Duke said, focus on the plots that matter to your character.

Delegate. Find people in your group(s) of minions that love questing, or merchaniting, and charge them with the task of funding the group, or just you! sure with your banite you can scare your minions into giving you gold every so often, with Novo, he just made silly faces and occasionally jingled the few coins in his pocket while around guild members, this generally ended in him recieving a big chunk of gold, off a couple of characters in particular.

If your making the plots of interest ICly to your minions, they will likely be happy to pay to have them followed up, and be involved in following them up.

                                        One more time though -

focus on the plots that matter to your character.

Give other players that your character trusts ALL your information on plots that arent as important to your character, and charge them with following it up!!!!!

If I hadn't started doing that with Novo and Gamwell, I would have quite probably gone insane and quit before their story was finished.

                                        Hold on… that happened...

Gamwell Scathelock - Stark Wyvern 'Commander'

The problem is thinking that you need to get to lvl 8 to start your plotting..and that is when you find that you dont have funds to finance your evil desire.

Try plotting from the day you join the server irrespective of your level and I dont think you will have any shortage for funds cause there are so many low level quest to fill your coffer..

For me if I am thinking of getting a high lvl ..that would be when I have made all the plotting and going in for the showdown..where I expect my char to withstand few hits

I beg to differ. You don't need neither gold, nor a high level, to involve/plot. What you need is, to interest people with your design, both ICly and OOCly. And if your character's a mechanical wimp - find yourself some buddies, who are not.

As a proof - Dante for most time of his mercenery period, was a rather mid - level character, followed by people mostly out of curiosity, what train - wreck he'll end up as.

Heck - with Matreus, ever since I joined Wyverns, I don't remember having more then 1k gold, and I have been level 8th for a day. And still, if I followed a certain tiefling's guideline, I might've started a conflict that could spark a small civil war.
