Silver Bannermen
-
So I was thinking to join a DM faction. And was pondering over the role of SB in the metafaction.
If you know from the start that you want to join a noble house, what is the incentive to go through SB rather than app directly into a house?
I mean, current house members apped for retainer status before even being created. Why are SB even there? -
Well the SB are there as a semi-faction that gives you help to join a House, you don't need app you get acess to a forum and get some nice gear.
You can advance from SB to retainership or wyrmguard form that, I think you just need to persue the goals related to the faction and then write an app.
I assume the app then wouldn't need t be as detailed as a pre-creation one.
-
The whole faction is being re-worked anyway, but, we filled the factions with pre-creation players to get it off the ground, after that, we asked people to earn in game by going through the silver bannermen, it's part of the journey
-
Harsil, you mean SB is for those of us who suck at writing apps? :) :P
Zool, that makes sense too. I probably missed the announcement though.
So I shouldn't write an app pre creation? SB will now be an obligatory step before joining a noble house or Wyrmguard?
Also, if it's not a secret, how will the faction be changed? -
We're still working on the exact nature of the changes.
It's not actually an official policy that you earn retainersip in game, but it is the general method the team tends to like to see as many feel it's a part of the story that is good not to miss out on.
Considering the low numbers in that faction, and the fact much will be changing, it's likely we'll be all over faction applications soon enough though.
-
As it is now joining the silver bannermen is simple as you will most likely be given a little task you have to complete or strive for, then write it up.
From there it's more dm-related if you wish to be a retainer/wyrmguard prv. as retainer/wyrmguard status can only be earned through dm-supervision and you might be told that you have to pursue the interests of a house but most of the time that won't weight much when dms are going to judge your app as they want ppl who make others active for a house and not ppl who're active since some retainers make -you- pursue a house' interest.
For that you must make it clear and write about you char in player-plot-forum so dms actually know what you're up to and know when you've completed your agenda that may lead to retainer-ship.
If you just walk around and doing minor stuff with others and don't initiate stuff you will remain sb even though you think yourself active enough to be retainer of a house I find. -
A DM doesn't actually ever need to see your character technically, so DM supervision isn't neccassary. But the rest is correct. You need to be actively involving, creating storylines, initiating things yourself.
The reason I say a DM never need see your character in game, is because when characters do the kinds of things we look for, you end up all over the various forums anyway.
-
I'd like to see Silver Bannermen be inducted as a retainer automatically if the character is actively pursuing Crown goals and storylines.
No app, no mess. More numbers in factions.
-
the SB would end up with no sb at all then. As either some ppl remain bannermen or quit their char. I recall of all the bannermen only one got to become retainer through a little plot he made (initiated himself). Rest quit their chars. So if those who stayed behind which are very few became retainers there would at most of the times be 1-3 bannermen. But there's simply no other reason being bannerman, so maybe it's a solution. It's not like you can't do what bannermen do as one outside the faction except you got permission to their forum, but it's kinda dead atm. so no loss there either.

@Khamal:

No app, no mess. More numbers in factions. They should be pursuing goals a particular HOUSE is interested in, not stuff that the Crown wants, I would think.
Otherwise I could see the discussion back at House X: "Sure, he gets stuff done, but whats he done for ME ? Those orc raiders he stopped helped Hardccastle's caravans. That demon info was useful for Maleen. but what about ME ?" -
If characters are doing awesome junk, they get into a faction. We do ask for an app, but it really is a formality at that point.
-
Remember, apps also helps us/and you to understand the faction characters better and know what they want to work towards, how they plan to do it and also why they wanted to get into the faction in the first place. It is very helpful for DMs to know this, as Zool said, you can so awesome junk and get in! But we still ask for an app, as a formal thing. :)
