Brainstorming Character
-
Ok guys. My best and most loved character Rose Feilds is dead. I gave up a tear when she did. Now I have no character and 0 ideas for a non DM approved concept…....Yes I have two ideas for an App. Help me players/Dms to come up with a character that will be well liked by all and acceptable to the DMs.
1. A run away Princess that is trying to stay out of sight of her parents kingdom.
2. A half-fey Sorcerer who is accompanied by her half sister who is full-blooded fey.As for the Runaway Princess. The plot behind it; Parents wishes her to marry a barren in their land to improve relations. Princess who worships Sune Firehair, (Yes another sunite, favorite deity) wishes to find the good old fairy tale happily ever after ending and find her true love. (Real world dose not work like that, much more trouble to be on your own). She tries to pretend to be some orphaned girl and hide the truth about her heritage as she travels and winds up in Arabel were she thinks she can stay for awhile. Gets mixed in with the Lyssian ordeal. From birth she has had this special power, (Sorcerer) That allows divination. (the reason the barren wants her) might join the mages guild when she feels it is safe to find a new home.
Personality wise; Kindhearted, Well mannered, (that of a princess which she will try and hide), Good with the harp (multiclass with bard/sorcerer), And extremely extremely ignorant with the real world that is not within the walls of her parent's castle.
The one I really, really wish beyond all hope is the Half-Fey, Background (and no not all of it cause I doubt anyone wishes a story book written here) Mother is Fairy, the actual fairy (not a Grig, pixie, nixie, etc. that are also in fairy definition to save space, and yes I know the differences of each) her husband was killed by a human mage, she was captured and experimented on about mixing race blood and gave birth to a second daughter that was half. The youngest daughter and mother escaped and gets back to the fairy kingdom. The other fey as most races do, shuns the half blood for being different. The first daughter also slightly picks on her (like most siblings do) but deep down some what blames her younger sister that her father was killed. Mother is the stereotypical overly protective mother. Her daughter got old enough she wishes to leave the fey kingdom to venture into the human world to learn more about her other half. Older sister goes along with her. (will be her familiar) Mother asked her too watch her younger sister and keep her out of trouble. She thinks it is more as a punishment though having to tag along and can't be with her boyfriend.
Personality wise; must I spell it out how most fey are??? mischievous and practical joker, a gem hoarder (if she sees a gem laid down after a job as part of the loot she will snatch it as fast as possible.{ My Precious }) Tries to steer clear of other people due to the fact she was alone growing up and do not trust others. Really distrust Wizards, especially the ones that -experiments- She has also learned of the Red Harts that went into that one DM event and killed the fey queen their (Oh how I still love that quest, still my favorite one of all, also it was more Rose Feilds that was the leader of that group and dealt the final blow but she is dead) to save the captured children of Eveningstar so she gives them a hard time as well. She is however kind and good.
The familiar (sister) Typical older sister authority. Very curious. Tries to tell her younger sister what to do all the time. Also very Feyish wise. Always teasing her sister. Gets along great with the Elves and will help them get their home back. {yes two different RPing here with different ideas}. She however likes the Mages guild for having the -free the fey- barrel.
I am willing to hear any ideas of changes, extras, or completely different concepts that you may have in mind for me to try. I must after all please the DMs with a perfect App that will be accepted.
I do have a hard time with Lawful good characters, and all three of the evil alignments.
I am hoping more for the Half-Fairy though…........I am just so exited about getting this character so here is an extra bit not related.
When it gets tough the tough gets going, that is why no tough players are on CoA.

Carnt belive Rose is dead, right up until the events in the slums Anna thought she could be saved.
Sorry I missed the end hope it was good.

A couple of additions. for the Half-fey idea
Thanks to using the sylvan language tool I now have the names for the two sisters.
The charcter is: Maiyanemi Wiinaitne (Daisy Petals)
The Familiar is: Vyanutina Wiinaitne (Violet Petals)I also forgot to add on to the idea That I would so like for her to have Butterfly wings. Will give it more spice.
And a few questions I thought of in the night. Is the Fey-Touched subrace which I will have to use restricted to just Humans? or can a halfling Fey-touched be permitted?
-
There is currently a halfling fey touched IG, so I beleive it may not be race restricted. As for wings fitting on the halfling body model, I don't know.

I advise you read through the player resources forum a bit.
Theres a post or three about creating a character concept that might help you considerably.
Those two should help you a lot. If you read them fully, and think about what they say, then answer some questions honestly about your current concepting ideas / methods.
I hope this helps.

Thanks it did help me to relies that I did not mention the first step on what type without the race or class involved. So I will tell the Why this character.
I am wanting to play a character that is similar to me in RL. (Bummer Alert)
deleted RL story
This is the base for the character "A loner who distrusts others, but wants to find a friend."
As for the race I want to combine my love of Fairies and their mythology. The familiar will be like my Older brother who tries to help me in small ways but still lets me know he is the older one. (kicked me in the legs after I grew taller than him)
As for wanting to give the Red Harts small problems here and there. I always want to stand up to my father and the only D&D class he ever plays is Paladin. So giving the Red Harts mischief will still follow my RL self as seeing my father in those paladins.
Now why for the class? There are but two with a familiar that I can posses and send with a group if the main character dose not want to go with them. (Yes, a familiar that will work on its own.) Wizards and Sorcerers. Wizards are more for reading. I was punished by my father and step-mother to go in the corner and read a book, So i developed a disliking to reading, though I am starting to get over it. And am reading books with, yeup you gust it. Sorcerers and faeries. (Fairy and Faerie a slit difference on what they are.)
Let me know how this start is now please. Am I finally working in the right direction for this application?
Also I do want to get involved with a player or DM faction with this character or both of them. However I do not want to base it on I want to join this one before I made this character concept but instead work with the players of the different faction till She and or her sister finds which one she works best with. Who knows, maybe a sorcerer Half-Fey will join the druid circle.
As for the long term goal for these two, I always have trouble with such because I in RL have a hard time seeing were my life will go. Server Depression effects me and I am at a constant struggle with myself, Family still thinks my Suicidal thoughts are too laugh at. Thankfully I have recently started getting help with that so don't worry about me.
Sorry for the gloomy story of my life.
But do let me know more ideas and hints/tricks to get this accepted by the DMs and will be a character that most players will love to see role played.

Seemed like a mix of concepting and something else. Not entitely certain the brief personal history was necassary but, sorry to hear all that.
Heres an idea.
How about you create a half elf. And apply for a special familiar (fairy dragon?) much more likely to get accepted as its a small change and probably easy to do. You could play pretty much the same concept and change the background a little bit. Or don't even apply for that and just use one of the standard familiars (parrot might work?) it wouldnt be fairies, but its an option.
If you are still committed to the fairy thing, try focussing on what you could do to make things fun for others right away after creation. Preferably that do not require a DM. The goal could be very simple, and then broken down into lots of fun and interesting sections.
-
I do thank you for trying referent things. But a Half-elf I have done so many times its redundant now for me. The Parrot idea I have tried, not the same effect. I will put some thoughts into an imp instead now that you given me that point to look at.
….............Sorcerer of Auril...think the ice goddesss, with a fire Imp following her.........Interesting.........

You are hung up on the race/class without giving any thought to the "concept".
For example:
How will your fey make fun for my cleric of Tyche in a quest?
What story/goal would you pursue that would make my cleric want to help you with it?
If you played a trick on me, I would likely curse you and clip your wings off. What would you do then? Gather folks against the church? Join the Lyssans against me? Go cry in a corner?
What if I told you there was a treasure hoard of gems in the Stormhorns but you had to be my spy in order for me to tell you where it is. Would you do it?
I am asking rhetorical questions. Think about motivations and goals. Not "I want to be a fairy with an imp because its fun".
Fun for who?

Thank you….Finally I have something to think about and try and find an answer too. I will think on these. Also I am not completely hung up on only doing this idea. I am trying to think of some none App character as well.

Ok, I have just learned how and placed all the pictures I had downloaded from the old CoA website and with them got new ideas to try.
I will come back to this concept latter, but still want to hear ideas please.
-
Ok, The new ideas I have for a non app character are bummed. They don't have that oomph that Rose had.
Guys, I have almost everything for this concept.
1.Personality
2.Story of why she is
3.What motivates her
3 1/2. What makes her tick.
4.How she would react to others and situations.
5.What she wants to do with her future. Loooooong term goals. (DM needed)
6.???????????(I still can not figure out how to make it fun for others.)Help me out guys. What would you want these two and or just one of them to do with each one.
I have decided to play both of them slightly different so the Familiar might go with a group alone to be a scout for them if the Main dose not like the group, and vise verses .
-
Ok. The part that says (DM needed) clearly could do with some work.
Its always best if your goals can be moved forward without one. Perhaps one could improve it, but requirinf a DM is generally a bad route.
Try and break your goal(s) down into segments.
Lizard man wrote an interesting post about this recently, and various resources in the….. Player resources forum can help too.
I might get a lil slap for linking this again, a few players have a small hatred for the term adventure and intrigue... But seriously. This thread should help you.
Awesome that you have a concept sorted out with a background and personality, the thread should help with your 5 and 6
ADVENTURE and INRIGUE ™

Thanks.
Also I might clarify my #5. I guess after thinking about it. A player could actually create the character that would finish that Looong term goal. But what I meant by DM needed was just till the end, working up to that I could work on it by myself or with others.
For my #6 all I have, "Work with everyone and try to make friends."
-
Work with everyone is good, so long as you have something to work on. Preferably lots of small things building up to the main thing.
Making friends is good. You may find what you do will not be liked by some (in fact, these are the most interesting goals for myself) and you may make lots of enemies too. Who will try to stop your lots of little things.
-
Working out goals over forums can be diffucult and the response a bit vague or misplaced. (Not saying you guys are not giving good advice here)
My advice would be to look back at Rose, try to see what you enjoyed with playing her. Figure out the things that made her fun, and try to tap into the same spirit of gameplay. This does not mean recreating the character in any way, but using the same methods for building ideas that you did then.
I know this might sound a bit abstract to you, but I find working with the same things you have done before and expanding on them is the way to do things. Doesn't have to be the same alignment, background, behaviour, etc. It can be completely different, but if you can try to recreate the spirit of the character you enjoyed, then you've got a good basis for your next idea and playing the way you feel comfortable with will make things feel more natural.

What I enjoyed the most about Rose was the things that was not like the others. In short I HATE cookie cutter characters. Example [Fighter with high STR and CON, wears heavy armor and Shield]. If you ever watched "The Gamers 2 Dorkness Rising" on the internet. The female player made her character the way I enjoy. The crazy "Why in the world did you make it like that?"
Rose was a cleric that was not a normal Heal everyone spell list or Buff everyone spell list. She was a Charm everything. Charm, Dominate animal, Charm Monster. Also she had a feat given from her deities domain that a DM had to activate that I changed into a kiss that makes you beautiful. She also had maxed Persuasion and feats to increase it as well. Had many ask me why I had so much in persuasion. Even a DM asked me "Why" one time.
All of my greatest characters were something unique about them that was different than others. In fact on several occasions I was pulled to the side and ask did I get permission for this or that on how I was playing it.

I miss Rose. I love that she had maxed persuade and that you RP'd that well. Amy was ready to dive head-first into the Lyssan cult after that short RP we had. In fact, she's still easily seduced by the promise of Lyss's power based on that.
Anyway, based on what you said about not wanting to be cookie-cutter: what makes your sorceress different from every other sorceress out there other than being half-fey and having wings? If you're keen to play a sorcerer, great, but have you thought about any theme for your magic? I'm meaning will you focus on charming again, or perhaps illusion (rather than the lumomancer/shadow adept themes)? Will you perhaps be like Aballister Bonaduce from the Cleric Quintet by Salvatore? (Aballister being of the wizard class, but with goals more in line with those one might expect from a cleric and of a deity that did not have magic as part of their portfolio to boot). Something like that might take you away from the cookie-cutter sorcerer without having to app for a peculiar race.
-
She will be different, I don't want to give everything away till I know if my App goes through or not.
