NwN on a Mac
-
All right, I'm converting to a Mac soon, and I want help. I know a copy of NwN exists for Mac, despite the fact it's not openly sold anymore. Does this copy, after installing the critical updates, still work?
Or should I just suck it up and load NwN on another partition?

I was lazy so I have my installed on a windows partition

I've linked wabz to a NWN copy on piratebay, and it seemed to work for her about a year and a half ago. Should still do so.

I just downloaded a mac version of nwn, it works (though its a bit jittery, occasional second long freezes or half a second mouse locking) it works.

You'd better have your original key codes though or it won't work.

I've been playing on bootcamp (windows partition installed on a mac) for the last few years, works fine.

The Mac version will run, and had version parity with the last version of Windoze NWN - BUT…
The Mac version was coded back in the day when Macs ran on Motorola. Your new Mac will be an Intel processor. In order to run the Mac version on Intel, it runs in emulation, and it steals acres of performance, and even if your new Mac has a fancy 256-512mb vram video chip, running it in emulation isn't smooth at all.
Easiest bet is to make a bootcamp partition, with Windows installed, and just reboot to Windows when you want to play.
Second bet which is a little effort on the top end, but avoids reboots, is to run it using Crossover. http://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover/

Actually, it it runs just fine on my sigoth's Intel Mac. I've never had problems. (I sometimes play on her machine when she's at work cause her's is faster than mine).

As a long time Mac user, I usually Bootcamp my Mac and put NWN on the Windows partition. This is also nice as it allows you to run other games that come out for Windows only. It runs great on that, I can attest. What type of Mac are you looking at getting? The only downside is you have to purchase a full version of Windows to install on the Windows partition.

You probably already have a Windows lisence on your current system, so you could just use that on the new Mac instead. That way you don't need to buy a new one.

…stuff...
Funnily enough the cost of XP these days is down to the retailers now, not Microsoft as they have now cancelled support for it completely. They don't even support new purchases with it installed (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... windows-xp).
So god knows how retailers can justify trying to still charge the launch cost for it.

i have been using it on bootcamp, with xp and vista and 7, xp and 7 are relaible, viata crashes me out after 30 minutes everytime..it is only suitable to come in and visit then leave
i am using 7 right now, though i have some issues with it, it works well enough but i would like more control over the screen resolutions

Rawr, been gaming on a mac since 2008. No bootcamp or partition. I just use my original CD keys and downloaded the Mac Demo from the website or something like that.
