Odd crashes..
-
Has anyone else experienced this type of crash?
It can happen after reboot (10-15 mins of NWN), it can happen after 12 hours of up time (10-15 mins of NWN), or it can happen after 3 or more hours of NWN, period.
Doesn't matter what's happening. Could be during a quest, or during a nap, or during level up, or during talking, etc.
The game suddenly becomes prismatic colored, and locks up. The music keeps playing, but the game cannot be killed, CTRL+ALT+DEL'd out of, Windows Keyed out of, or anything else. Just.. done. Seems like it's just a game crash, but Windows won't respond. It's on Win7 64bit, everything updated. Intel Core i5 760 (2.8 GHZ), 8GB DDR 1333 RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX 470 1G + shared RAM if needed.
Currently only running compatibility as Administrator.
Thanks, if anyone knows! -
that was happened to me when i had 'shiney water ' on.
first thing to check?
-
Yeah, change your graphics settings down and test it. Sounds like a graphics card issue to me though, with the prismatic bit.
Said you got your drivers up to date though, maybe try testing the graphics card out wi something? Google will have the answer on how to do that.

I get crashes on Windows 7 x64 from time to time. Frustrating
-
Me too actually, and it worries me because of the animal companion issues.
-
on animal companions - saw this yesterday when a Druid logged and didn't send his animal companion off. It sat there. Non hostile. Tamed it and led it to a save area.
-
Yes. That is not the part that worries me. Its if i crash and then lose it, like, it gets killed or something, while i am not there to protect/unsummon it
-
I had problems at first too until I turned off shiny water and set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP 3.
Additionally, if you copied your original install of NWN from another machine/different OS, you might consider deleting nwconfig.ini from the NWN directory and then running nwconfig.exe. This'll force NWN to revert to its default configuration, scan your system's hardware and set itself up accordingly.
I had this issue, especially with the toolset, until I did that but your millage may vary.

Yeah, i did all thoe things. Except i installed it from the discs, as dragging the directory didnt work for me.
Still get crashes every so often

Sounds obvious I know but, you are running it in Admin Mode? (Right click>run admin) along with XP compat enabled? (Ive never had to enable XP compat, but for some it helps ofc)
-
Yes, was going to put that in my post but forgot. Its in compat mode for xp2 and running as admin.
Think its an unavoidable compatability issue myself
