Project: The Hunger Games Campaign
-
So, long time no see eh. Well I have decided to make a module based on the book trilogy, the Hunger Games.
Background Info:
Approximately seventy-four years before the events of The Hunger Games trilogy, the various districts of Panem rebelled against the Capitol, primarily due to the oppresive fashion in which the Capitol government ruled over the districts. It is unknown how long the rebellion lasted or the exact number of casualties on either side (although the Capitol claims that for every dead Capitol citizen, two rebels died), but by the end of the conflict, the Capitol had quelled the rebellion, defeating twelve of the districts and obliterating the thirteenth entirely. In the wake of the rebellion, the Capitol established the Hunger Games, an annual event in which twenty-four children between the ages of twelve and eighteen, one boy and one girl from each district, are chosen from a lottery and entered into a gladitorial competition where they must fight each other to the death until only one remains standing.
The event served two purposes. The first was to demonstrate the overwhelming power the Capitol had over the districts by taking their children by force and forcing them to slay each other in a no-rules competition. It was proof that the Capitol's control over its people was so inexorable and unstoppable that they could do something so sadistic as to force the children of their conquered foes to slay each other in a battle royale. The second purpose was purely for entertainment. The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in the same vein as a reality show, its entrants practically considered celebrities and the events themselves dramatized and glorified.
This will obviously be adapted to dnd in NWN's toolset. I have gathered what I want to be in the module and only need left to make areas for it and finalize. But what I would like to know if how many people would be interested in doing this on a weekend basis. I need atleast 24 players, 2 from each district. If your interested in this campaign, drop me a pm or post here.

While this works well in movies and books, won't this just turn into a 30 minute gankfest?
-
The books (Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay) were fantastic, and I'm excited to see if they do a good job with the movie.
To address lillesmurfen's concern: the first few minutes of each Game were a "gankfest" with 6-8 of the contestants being killed to start with as they took off from their assigned starting points to try to get to the Cornucopia (which was filled with food, weapons, and other supplies). The rest of the time people were hiding, making shelter, hunting, getting chased by giant insects and cannibal monkeys and rabid canines, as well as trying to kill each other. Some formed alliances and worked together against the others. Some went lone-wolf and hunted the others, picking them off one-by-one.
There is plenty of room for Adventure AND Intrigue in a setting like this. I dont see it lasting more than a few weeks, to be honest, but then again, the Hunger Games did not last but about that long.
I'd like to see how someone sets up the mod for this. I would be willing to make a character for it as well.
XXDarrienX: I recommend giving people some idea what each district represented/focused on so that they would have some idea for character backgrounds.
Example:
District 12 were mostly coal-miners.
District 11 were farmers.
District 2 made electronics/gadgets/weapons.Etc.

Seemes like an american version of the Japanese Book/Movies "Battle Royale". Both the book and movies are definatly worth the time. Especially if you are into this type of stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-T7yPJVvXw

Here are the District Descriptions that I wrote up based on the book and a few modifications for missing district info and fantasy setting. The Tokens are to simulate bonuses based on your home district and are not final. If you have a suggestion feel free. One other thing, entertaining ideas for the dead contestants to participate in some fashion.
District 1
District 1 makes luxury goods for the Capitol. Children there take pride in competing in the Games, and are among the group of tributes nicknamed "Careers," who band together in the Games until they are forced to fight among themselves.
District Token: TBADistrict 2
District 2 is a small district set in a mountainous region not far from the Capitol itself. In the midst of District 2 is a central mountain known as "The Nut" which contains a underground fortress. Originally District 2 specialized only in mining and stone cutting but after the war it was also tasked with production of weapons and the training of Peacekeeper forces.
During the Dark Days, District 2 was the Capitol's staunchest ally and after that rebellion was over, it received preferential treatment from the Capitol. Its citizens are better fed and have better living conditions.
District Token: +3 Craft Weapon/Craft Armor +3. Bonus Feat: Weapon Focus (Hammer)District 3
District 3 specializes in magical items. Most of its inhabitants work in foundries and are very adept with creating magical items. Some people think of District 3 as weak, but their intelligence can give them an advantage. Its tributes tend to use this to their advantage.
District Token: +3 Lore, +3 SpellcraftDistrict 4
District 4 fishes for the Capitol, and is another wealthy and Career district by providing expensive seafood to Capitol Citizens.
District Token: +3 Fishing, Weapon Focus (Trident), Weapon Focus (Spear), +3 ClimbDistrict 5
District 5's industry is making cosmetic items for the rich citizens of the Capitol.
District Token: +5 Hide. 1/day CamouflageDistrict 6
District 6's premier industry is the brewing of elixirs for the capitol citizens.District 7
District 7 specializes in lumber and paper.
District Token: Weapon Focus (Hand Axe), +3 Woodworking, Bonus Feat: Scribe ScrollDistrict 8
District 8 specializes in textiles and is where Peacekeeper uniforms are made.
District Token: Bonus Feat (Nimble Fingers), +2 Spot, +2 Search, Weapon Focus (Dagger)District 9
The industry for District 9 is smelting ore that is mined out from District 12.
District Token: +5 Reflex vs. Fire, +2 CONDistrict 10
District 10 specializes in livestock.
District Token: Ride +3, Animal Empathy +3, Bonus Feat: TrackDistrict 11
District 11 specializes in agriculture. It is located somewhere in the south and is very large. The people are housed in small shacks and there is a harsh peace-keeping force. Common traits are dark skin and brown eyes.
District Token: Survival, Knowledge (Nature) +5, Bonus Feat: Weapon Focus (Scythe), Woodland Stride, TrackDistrict 12
District 12 mines iron for the Capitol. The district itself is split into two areas housing two distinct social classes. "The Seam" is a slum where those who work in the iron mines live, whereas the mercantile class lives in the town. Both classes are easy to distinguish physically: those from the Seam generally have dark hair, grey eyes and olive skin, and those from merchant families usually have blond hair and blue eyes.
District 12 is very poor, and starvation is a major issue for the citizens. Due the lack of food, the local Capitol authority, the Mayor and Peacekeepers, often bend the extremely strict Panem laws. The magical barrier surrounding the district and preventing access to the woods is often not up as it is sometimes too costly in magical resources to keep it up. Some residents often hunt for food for their families and for others by selling it in the local black market. The black market, located at an old warehouse named the Hob, was where many of the citizens make their money.
District Token: +3 Listen, +3 Search, +3 Survival. Bonus Feat: Low-light vision, alertness, Weapon Focus (Light hammer) -

@AWESOMEMAN:
Oh God, it's Darrien.
-
[puts the topic back on its rails]
I can see someone from District 6 getting Brew Potion as a free feat and possible some bonus skill points in lore (for knowing herbs)
-
I made some changes to district bonuses and the module is mostly done so I would need some willing testers.
-
So I finished the mod more or less and would like to see if anyone is willing to help me test a few things like the survival things like fatique and hunger, full looting etc.
-
sure i will
-
I am so game for this!
-
So I am at an impasse. I have completed all the areas but after some testing, the system that I got off that vault that had everything I needed is too bulky requires tons of hak files(775mb compressed) not to mention does not seem to work all that well. So I am looking out to the coa community in general for anyone willing to help with scripting side of things or at least to get things working. I am currently testing out HCR3.1 that has all the realistic things that I need in a survivalist style module(without the hak files).
- The ability for players to hunt animals for food and cook said food and it works with HCRs HTF system.
- Adding Vulc's Crafting System
- Ranger Tracking(possibly COAs? If willing to provide it)
I have some plans for future campaigns after the initial Hunger Games happens, so its not all just blood baths and pvp. If your interested in helping me make this module. Send me a pm or reply here.

So, thanks to some assistance from Duck and Seth. I was able to get the module working to my satisfaction, though missing a few key systems I would want but can't be picky. Now for those of you want to participate in this campaign module are going to submit a character bio to me via pm with the subject name of your character name and District Number. There are 12 districts, each with their own quirks and so forth. For now, going to skip the whole training days and such, that is for a later expansion of the module. Now your going to assume your character is level 5 and that it is 1 male/1 female per district.
The areas for you to put Training Days is that 2 days, tributes are in the same training area, showing off their abilities and/or learning new abilities that they do not normally have, be realistic on what your learning as they can also have an impact on your character via additional bonuses or penalties. Keep in mind, that since no one else will know your class or abilities, you might not want to give away TOO much RP info as everyone will have access to any info put there.
The last section is for when your alone with the Gamemakers, based on what you write or do, your rating for the games will be determined by that, and only I will know what was in there. This will also affect your Sponsor Bonus for when you need things given to you in the area(via DM).
Here is an example to go by.
