Arabel's Tips for all players.
-
_Hello there guys. I cannot say i am a new player because i am playing CoA for some years. (with some long breaks, from time to time). 1.) All these years i am here, i have never made anything useful for the server, like create a function or make an application for a special class or race.
I kinda finding them, too hard to be completed! Even if i make one, is propably going to be rejected. That might happen, because i lack long-term plans. So, can you give me any tips about applications?
2.) More information about -how to be a good- roleplayer in CoA!_

Firstly, click here. This is the collected wisdom of DMs and players on how to Roleplay and apply for perks.
My own tips on Applications in the current environment is as follows
-
Create a character that actually meets the standard requirements for entry to a DM Faction
-
Join a DM faction that has a Starter role - No Application necessary. Just meet Factions members IC and fit in
- Mage Guild Novice
- Red Hart Squire
-
Spend some time in the faction helping the full members achieve their goals and promoting the faction
-
Start talking in the IRC faction channel about how to write up your application. Also chat on #coacharacters to one or two of the experienced players there. You'll get all the help you need.
-
Start to get your mind into the Faction Goals and consider how you might help achieve them
-
If you've joined the Mage Guild as a Novice, then get the Application written up and post it
-
If you're a Squire, wait until invited to write the application by the DMs
-
Get help IC from your Faction members. They actually want you to succeed, mostly!
The Mage Guild is probably the easiest route in, second only to Red Hart if you have never applied for anything before. One thing I find that breaks DM Faction applications before they've even started is when people try to build an application that is fundamentally opposed to the goals and requirements of the faction. You can get one passed, but it'll have to be awesome. So much easier to build your character round the requirements and goals of the faction.

Thanks Lamancha!
-
First thing I’d do is rid yourself of the viewpoint that your applications are bound to fail. No point going into the process on a down, the worst thing that can happen is they say “noâ€
-
I think I'll apply for a Sheriff.
-
_Thanks Lavish, you are propably right…. i shouldn't be pessimistic and always try my best!
You were a great help buddy!
Cheers! :)_

I agree starting in a faction is easiest. Earning a recommendation IG doesn't take long and you have other faction members to help you. I started in the Thayans and Militia way back in the day.
I've played in several factions and subraces and Lamancha and lavishfeast's advice is spot on, accurate and very helpful. Not much to add to that.
Visit #coacharacters channel on the IRC for additional help. I troll there and offer advice with other veteran players.

Personally, I always PM my application, to at least two DM's before I even think about submitting it. I ask for feedback, and if there are concerns or anything, I re-write it, then send it back, till said DM's say it's all good. Only then do I even submit it.

He just described every character I've played.

This is a clue that someone needs to branch out a bit more…
