Why can't I counter Ogre Mage spells
-
I was stood, countering an Ogre Mage and he cast spell after spell. None could I counter even though they were within my level range.
For example. I had Invisibility learned and ready, yet the mage cast Invisibility (which I detected) and nothing beyon dthat.
Is it some strange magic that I can't counter?

He probably beat your spellcraft roll.
-
You don't see any roll. Is it done out of sight, as it were? The log says I identified the spell as Invisibility. I thought SPellcrafting was only used in identifying, not in the actual countering.
Log says:
-
it seems that Ogre Mages don't cast, they use Special Abilities! :(
Bloody Cheaters!
-
I checked in the toolset, Ogre Mages don't have spells (nor spellcaster levels), they have special abilities. I think those special abilities cannot be countered.
-
Yes, in the same way you cannot counter spells from summoned hound archons, or summoned green slaadi or a lot of possessed NPCs. Another display of how well NWN was scripted.
-
You can't counter a monster's special abilities, only spells.
-
Because you're shit, tbf
-
Actually, they are supposed to be innate abilities not spells. Same as in PnP.
