Can't believe this hasn't been posted here, yet. Where the heck is Dond?
Terraria. A game often compared to Minecraft, however much more like Diablo 2 with a "mining theme" and an old school 2D feel (Super Mario World meets Zelda: Link to the Past meets Minecraft meets Diablo 2).
You mine, you make your own armor, you fight lots of enemies, you find random treasures, rare and powerful loot, you can dig all the way into hell itself, there are secret floating islands to find with treasures, you can play it singleplayer or multiplayer, you can bring your singleplayer character online and across servers and save all the items you've found, you can build your own village and attract NPCs to buy/sell to, and you can summon up to three secret bosses with more loot and that really own your buttox.
It's a 10 dollar game, I've managed to put about 30 hours into it in a few weeks because I can play it at the barber shop (where I work) in between customers if it's not too busy. Very casual game with fun challenge. The only reason I've been able to play it is because of how casual you can choose to play (work all day, dad at night, tough juggle).
Anyway, check it out if ya want.

Dwarf fortress is the ultimate mining game!
Seriously, when did mining become a game genre?
-
Since Dwarf Fortress?

The game is fun but it is no Dwarf Fortress or Minecraft. It has very little real building and once you play it though, there is little left to do again.

The amount of windmill arm attacks turn me off.

Meh, 200,000 copies in a week doesn't really lie. And Dwarf Fortress looks less appealing than cleaning cat shit out of my white carpet. Suck it, you old ass hippies.

I recently bought Terraria, it's actually pretty damn fun. If anyone else has it, I want to try out the multiplayer!
