Get rid of Carniphages
-
1. It kills newbies, instantly.
2. It kills level 8 fighters, in 2 rounds
3. It makes people avoid adventuring in the ruins
4. It is frustrating with very little reward
5. It rewards veteran players who can farm them while people who just joined up have no clue whatsoever.Edit: I actually know 1 veteren player and 1 newbie who QUIT CoA after getting eaten by carniphages in the ruins.

I would second this, new players that don't know any better it's instant death as one of the more popular "low level" scholars hunt takes place there, now if you were to make the ones that appear in the more "common" places nerfed it might work but the one's in place are just god aweful powerful.
Picture this your NEW to the server and you go down to do the scholars hunt, and you cast a spell a effect happens you see a few neg burst and bang dead!. That isn't fun nor does it make you want to stay atleast post a warning, making it happen in only certain places where the higher levels go and the danger is known.
-
Higher levels, taking every precaution, can still die. Of course, they can avoid this by refusing to take newbies along.
-
The spell shouldn't affect you on that quest.

But when your travelling outside the quest areas and run into something I believe is what they saying

Most of the walking is done through the areas where it does affect people. Sometimes, there are spawns, and also, people might cast buffs and healings. There have been many discussions about this, and this is at least the second time its made it to the forums.

Then that's a bug.

Oh shit!
diesThe last one just happened.
Namely to me.
3rd death from carnis so far, 2nd on this char.
I'm an extremely newbie friendly player. I've given out maybe 50+ potions of cure light wounds. This is the one quest that helps me mix with lowbies on quests. Please get rid of them.

I don't think so. I don't want to spoiler but I think they talking about walking around the Regular Ruins not the Quest Areas. So I don't think its a bug but you know the scripting so it may be idk

The scholar's quest involves I think about 8 rooms, all of which are disconnected from each other, and requires travel through 2-3 areas of the main Ruins area. These are the areas where the carniphages drop.
-
They already have been nerfed. There's an SFX before they appear and they pop on down one a time, giving you plenty of time to run before they actually start firing.

Dudes…
I built the quest. I know how it works. Carniphages aren't suppose to spawn on anyone who has the quest. We'd meant to set it up that way, so its a bug.

-The ruins are known to be dangerous.
-You can counteract negative and cold energies with gear/potions.
-Ruins reward with experience.
-Indirect coin reward.
-Could try telling people not to use magic! -
They are annoying…but so are roaches, just gotta live with it.
-
Why are Carno whatevers so deadly? I'm afraid to go find out for myself. T-T

I second this! Haven't been to the ruins since my return. No one will take me! If only I remembered how to find them.
-
They really aren't deadly unless you have less than like 30 hp

I was there for that..

Perhaps work IG to find the source of the carnies and get rid of them for good. The Mage Guild seems to know the most about them and where they come from.
And, in the meantime, work IG to get posted warning signs around the ruins to beware using magic in the areas. That way, there is no excuse for noobs once they read the signs (make them stupidly obvious)

Khamal, I have 86 HP and have died twice.
You simply can't heal before they spam you with a second wave of spells. Its like 60 damage PER round.
