Bard Guild Idea
-
Right, I've been playing with this idea for awhile now, but I'm not sure about the finer details, or if it's something that anyone would really want to see.
Most of the time when I see bards, I see adventurer or spellsword types of bards. Occasionally I'll see a performance-based bard or something like that. None of these are bad things, but I have always thought it would be cool to have bards that actually recorded the names of heroes and events in epic sonnets or books or whatever. I mean, think about how much more awesome some heroic PCs would be if they had some of their exploits recorded somewhere. If I walked into the tired traveller and clicked on an NPC who starts singing something about Malverick Anatara that some player had written, I'd poop my pants.
So yeah, I'd like to build a faction like that- one that follows around heroic characters and writes about them. Makes them famous. Legendary!
However, it still needs some other things to make it interesting. I mean, some of you hero types are pretty boring, so we might want to do something different if no hero is online. Any suggestions, chums? Or is it just a bad idea alltogether? :D

my bard Lilybeth Ravenlocks would make up songs about certain various people of note and use them as marching songs when out on the road with people.
Thats one easy way to do it..
Edit:
Ahh.. found em..

/forum/viewtopic.php?t=76331For awhile i've been considering making a Bard, and just using Rush songs as my lyrics.. I think it'd be fun.

@Deadlock:
youfed
First game someone called me a feeder cuz I charged at a tower from the Beginning lol
I was like, "whats a feeder?"
next issue is soon to come

I'd say do it in-game, as opposed to a forum newspaper - That gets audience involvement and/or feedback.
I also found that spur-of-the-moment "performances" tended to spark discussion, as opposed to "concerts" where you announce it.
-
Don't get me wrong- I love newspapers and I love doing the research and all that IG, but it doesn't necessarily have a "bard" feel to it.
I've come up with a few ideas, and I'll list them here:
A Bard-Hero guild. A bard and a "hero" band together as a team and work together to become legendary. To give an example, think of an agency that would invite promising adventurers and give them their personal bard. The bard would help them, follow them, and advise them. The bard would be a valuable ally who would help gurantee the success of the adventurer by spreading word of their successes and great deeds, all the while recording everything they have done in a log. The log would be sent back to the guild on a regular basis, the ultimate goal being to make a great story about one person or group.
A Secret Bard Guild. Kind of the same concept as above except the bards are more spies than official guardians. They would follow the hero around and record their exploits, while covertly helping them and guiding their hand. They would alter fate. For example, Mr. Smith is a particularly strong peasant turned adventurer. Mr. Scribe the bard notices Mr. Smith, and believes he has the potential to be great. He would covertly assist Mr. Smith, perhaps without Mr. Smith's knowledge, and would try to manipulate him into becoming a great reknowned hero.
This is the kind of thing I'm thinking- any thoughts?

Yes.
spread the stories and such IG. actually TALK and/or SING about them to other PCs in-game, not just via "logs" sent in. -
This. Then let me join in.

Something like the mummers would actually be really cool!
