The Little Things You'd Like To See Changed
-
This has nothing to do with Arabel per se, just the changes you'd like to see with things as they stand and how they might be improved upon.
Incidentally, it would be nice to have a DM perspective on this as well.
This isn't a gripe thread by the way, we're effectively the die hards of one of the greatest games ever made, I'm interested in how small changes could make it even better.
I'll start the ball rolling with a thing I've always disliked and would love to see changed -
Why oh why does every bloody chest and door have to creak upon opening and slam upon shutting?
I'd throw in a percentage chance of either thing happening.Anyway, what small thing (or big thing thinking about it) gets your goat (DMs included) and how would you improve upon it?

My main PC foolishly cast animate dead and had an alignment shift from neutral to evil. At least I guess that's what caused it. As far as I can tell there doesn't seem to be many ways in game to shift in a major way back in the other direction. I'd welcome being able to chip away slowly back towards neutral somehow.

I think it would be cool if there were cowboy hats.

An NWN2-style GUI for DMs. Wands are so incredibly frustrating to me now.
Also, the ability to mix and match tiles.
-
no second top layer just all one piece. Being able to access the contents of a bag or box while sitting or moving. Without it closing on you the second you click to move again. We can hotkey this stuff for instant use in a fight but manualy accessing it when you need to get away is tricky at best.

Top hats… Hat in general would be nice. But top hats would be the best.

Hell. Yes.
Tricorn caps would also be nice.

Blackpowder guns. Mmmm Muskets.

People could start roleplaying their character's belief system and relationships to NPCs/PCs at lvl1, or at least lvl 3, instead of at lvl 7+. Just as importantly. People would quest train and hit lvl 10 in a month. It's immersion breaking to meet someone one day and have them be a country bumpkin that fell off the caravan and has never swung a sword before, and is generally agreeable, and then come back in 2 weeks (RL) and find out that person is now a lvl 10 fighter or wizard that despises group X, Y, or Z, has had no IG reaction with those groups to cause such, and is hellbent on destroying them.
Or, in short, roleplay your character consistently, and progressively, instead of bam Clark Kent to Superman

More starting gold.
Swamp woman.
Come on DMs, sort it out.

Rule change: Cyb0r allowed :D
But seriously, I would love to see what Ko-Ri-Us said because the server used to be structured like this.
Old Server:
1-3- New PC
4-7- Older PC, Usually somewhat involved in things (Maybe really involved and just not a strong mechanical build)
8+ - The usually really into everything PC's always doing stuff etc etc.Now Server:
1-3- New PC
4-7- Involved in a lot usually just keeps dying on DM quests
8+ Power grinding levels! MUST WIN COA!!!Now these are just generalities and I know some 8+ are involved majorly still and I know some 4-7 are people who just want to power level.
I would mostly like to see this go back to the old form.

Blackpowder guns. Mmmm Muskets.
You just want this so you can extend your lollipop hijacking operation to others. Don't give it to him!

I'm pretty sure that both Drip and Corwin have taken this thread in a direction not intended by the OP. Let's make sure that future posts don't go in that direction again.

Sad Panda :(

Z axis stuff… climbable buildings, flying at different heights, proper swimming, etc.
Cover- ie: able to get % cover bonus for hiding behind crates, etc.
Fix whirlwind attack.
Effeciency improvements: would be nice to be able to have more NPCs to represent crowds in certain areas, add ambiance, give you a clear idea / feeling of how an area is. (Can I blend in to a crowd, or is there actually 12 people here).
Better AI (and PC pathfinding). Variable monster group fighting styles, morale breaking events/checks (i.e. sneak into a mob of goblins and take out the goblin chieftan and all gobos bust make a will save/morale check or attempt to flee.) Wish we could use more heartbeat scripts to get more realistic reactions out of guards when sneaking, etc.

Sorry Harry, It was just what I wanted to see changed… But something else would be more not so secret but empty places for PC use. I know a lot of people used to like to use empty houses in the Slums for meetings and that was always fun for me because there was a chance of getting caught or spied on.

@HarryMcScary:
Cover- ie: able to get % cover bonus for hiding behind crates, etc.
I could do this.
This sounds AMAZING.

OK, I'm guessing I'm off the mark by saying what we'd like to see in the game world, as opposed to mechanics changes, so I'm going to do so here, since I'd like to get player opinions as well. Sorry to have hijacked the original intent. Was not my aim.

More terrain types. And by this I mean, no more "Cliifs" or unpassable woodland "walls". Sure there can be denser woods, but I cannot imagine woodland which I would not be able to enter. Cliffs was something that is meant to add to "tactics" of NWN I suppose, but geeze, how many cliffs can we have?! They are everywhere!
