Playing an Oghman - Need advice
-
I hate to ask such a silly question, but I need some advice. Playing a cleric of Oghma has presented a challenge for me. I am having difficulty finding a good Oghmanite "concept" with which to play (other than write books, obviously). I am open to ideas how to play an interesting Oghman that brings fun for others. I am having a nice time playing the Clocksmith adventurer (Indiana Jones-ish in a way), but need some advice how to push the Oghman dogma/ideals too.

Crusade against the uneducated. Your goal in life to destroy all dumb people in the world and create a better and more intelligent word. Barbarians are the bane of your existence.
just something I thought up real quick.

Militant Oghman. Sexy. I support this.

The anti dumbass soldier sounds like an awesome idea.

I think some barbarians read, you know! Let's not generalize.

Be obsessed with knowledge, but utterly unethical. Hang out with the most evil bastards you can and try to get them to teach you about their wicked things so you can record it for posterity. Tail along with paladins for the same reasons.

If Khamal is playing the Oghmite I think, then he does it great. Honestly, The Oghmite I always wanted to play was like Flynn Carson Sorta guy (If you haven't seen the Librarian its a good Oghmite sort of guy.) which is sorta similar to Indiana Jones. Just instead of just being the on screen Jones, follow his whole thing. He goes out and finds sick treasure and then… Teaches about it! :) Hope this helps

I'm gonna echo Dick on this one. An Oghman character who takes 'knowledge is power' to a whole new extent. A character focused on amassing a fortune through trade of information. Hire informants, barter stuff forwards. Not only will this be a cool character IC, you'll also OOCly be creating lots of fun when you'll be the fellow that involves dozens of characters in different plots.
Another approach is the Siamorphan mix, an educated snob that believes the power to belong not to the people, but to the fair few who have a grasp of knowledge. Maybe a supporter of magocracies, too.

I have been toying with the concept of a good priest of Oghma who has to reconcile his disdain for the ideas of evil beings with the dogma of Oghma which states all ideas should be heard and considered. I feel like the character would be put into interesting positions where he has to defend beliefs he disdains so the beliefs can be heard and considered. He would be the embodiment of "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

But Arabel already is the capital of talking smack…

Neutral Oghmite is straightforward enough. A good Oghmite… well, you might try writing about all the hazards of being evil, in a what-goes-around-comes-around sort of way.
Other than writing books, you could oppose followers of dieties who try and distort the truth or pervert history. "Oghma dislikes Mask, Cyric, and Bane, viewing them as the most credible threats to his beloved balance." Although I would add beings like Talos who more or less exist to destroy.

Awesome ideas! I already play a similar concept in the "knowledge is for everyone" business (good or evil) and I like that. The other ideas I will take and use.
A DM also pointed out to me IG about my app goals still yet to be realized! Haha, yeah…I gotta work on those too...
