Clever monsters.

This bothered me for awhile so while it's not a proper rant just a small complaint.
Low int monster being smart for example trolls!!!
Now trolls are dumb so dumb in fact they are totaly immune to mind effecting spells as they have no real mind to effect so why when a dm takes over one do they suddenly become the smartest monster ever!I can understand a dm wanting to add some fun and such but at least be fair and play the characters/monsters stats
Stupid monsters are stupid having them sudenly become super clever and running past the warriors that are killing them to attack the unarmoured mages or healers is not what somthing less smart than the average hamster is going to figure out.
Running for it's life yes but just doing your best to kill the weakest characters there isn't adding fun. -
It isn't actually realistic either to run past a line of armored warriors with ease to get a tactical advantage. shrugs
However, I'm yet to understand why people keep saying that all tiny details of a video game should be as realistic as it could be to make it more fun.
Why do you all think that we must put an equation mark between realistic and fun?!People shouldn't log out ever, because it isn't realistic, so it isn't fun.
I'm not saying that the original idea is bad, neither I say it is good, I don't really say anything about it. It's just the reasoning what frustrates me. -
I think that the idea behind is, if my warrior has 8 int and I -should- roleplay it as a dumb person, I do expect that, on the same rule, a troll with 3 int should not be able to make advanced connections about why it should go and kill the bard (singing in the background) rather than the three armored warrior who are making it bleed with heavy sweords and axes immediately next to it.
Unless, of course, you are so unlucky to find the only Troll who has the triple of the average intelligence of the race and your bard is not very good at singing.
(on a different note I would understand if your "second line" character is casting Melf's Arrows to the troll, that would make it mad…)

If players start playing their stats accordingly then I might take something like this seriously.

Trolls aren't that stupid either. They can figure out that a heavily armored man is tougher to get in their mouth and eat than a cowardly dude he runs away from the first sign of a threat and hides in the back.
So boo hoo. Maybe those high intelligence wizards should have thought up a better plan than hide in the back and go invisible at the first sign of danger. You'ld think someone with 18 intelligence could roleplay a back up plan.
