What do you think about D&D Online?
-
I was one day browsing the internet for stuff to make me laugh when i fell over something interesting. Some black words told me, that Dungeons & Dragons Online is now available for free.
Okay, i don't know since when the game is available at all, but i was like "Wweeee!!, i gotta get this."So then i downloaded, installed and updated before i jumped into the game and i got overwhelmed by so much stuff which 1. is familar to me, because of 8 years NWN experience and 2. new stuff which i didn't experienced in an online roleplay game.
Tumble actually can make you side-jump or back-jump and you could swim and finding traps and disarming them is so much cooler than on NWN.Now to my question: is there anybody else who played this game for atleast a day or longer? And if yes, how did you enjoyed it? Do/did you like/hate/love/curse it? And why? Or do you still play it and is it worth playing it longer than getting to level 2?
Share your experience with DDO with me wether they are good or bad (or neutral). -
I just really can't take all the shouting, "NEED CLRC 10" and stuff that goes on. I also think I had flaming everything after 2 quests, including +1 flaming underpants which just looks dumb. Loved jumping off cliffs and swimming.

Unless you can get a mature player base, rather then a WoW one, such games will never be good.
Mature as in, they actually RP and use actual words. >>

bad bad bad…if you are to play a mmo which are all usually bad, do yourself a favor and grab a few friends first to play with. It makes it less baddish.

DnD is not WoW! DDO is a WoW copy, to the max. Do not waste your time. The grind gets old by lvl 5. I have/Had a lvl 6 rog/wiz. I wasn't willing to put up with such a half assed DnD game. Its not even close to a PnP game, Bio-ware did soooooo much better.
That said. I'm leaving Arabel in Spring of 2011 for KOTOR MMO. DnD with light sabers….....drools a bit

The most adult playerbase I have ever had the pleasure of playing with was and still is in everquest 1, its over a decade old and has years worth of content. (It's intimidatingly huge)
It's my top pick for MMORPG's even though its been years since I ever hopped on. It isn't free though… Probably never will be.

You just accurately described fourth edition dungeons and dragons.

Wasn't too bad, though I only played on Sarlona (the 'roleplay' server, as in, it has some roleplay guilds and permadeath guilds), and even then only with people I knew.
Played a cleric, then favoured soul, both times I had to have the party invites option turned off otherwise it'd be constant request popups, often from the same person.
I gave it a fair go, over a period of a bunch of months, but I never reached 20 and I hear there's a bunch more interesting stuff up there. Lag gets bad, though (as in on some of the final quests, as a cleric your job is to tap the 'mass heal' spell every 10 seconds, as the damage being dealt by everyone causes such a lag spike that no-one appears to move until the monster dies, or the party wipes. No exaggeration).
I only gave it a go because of a thread here which was about favorite gameworlds - Moloch gently implied that a lot of the forgotten realms supporters were fanboys without enough experience of other gameworlds to defend it. Moloch was right, as he usually is :P So I went to try Eberron, or 'Final Fantasy and Dragons'!
Still a Realms fanboy, only now more educated :D

Ultima Online is the only MMO out there that was ever worth playing.

Kind of looked interesting until I realised that you actually need to aim and click for every attack which kind of makes it into a shooter more or less doesn't it?
So…no...this is not a roleplaying game the way I see it. It is yet another mainstream game for kids.
-
I didnt play it myself but had a friend play it for me, they said they got a flaming sword within a few hours of playing, so same as Nikko. Sounds like Port Montyhaul.
-
Aim and click to target - button press to use spells, ranged weapons or attacks on the selected target. Being good at third person shooters helps, though.
Still, easy to get into. Just has the fundamental MMO problem of there's nothing to actually do - as in nothing you do matters, other than gather items and gold in excess of other people. I never collected trading cards, though. ;)
As for the flaming sword - it's essentially a +1 weapon, and should've been within about 10 minutes of playing unless he got lost or drowned at the tutorial beach or something. You replace it with a Bane weapon within an hour, though :P
-
I liked the tutorial, except for the excessive loot. I managed to play about 15 minutes after that.

The fighting system is, what i think is the most interesting part of the game.
Instead of click and click and click and click on a monster, to hit it (like Diablo) or one click and watch the auto-attack (like NWN; though you can turn on auto-attack in DDo, which helps with ranged weapons), i hold right mouse button and watch my bard swing her rapier against the foes while i can navigate in 3rd person view to walk around the enemy and with ranks in tumble i can easily side-roll around him to dodge the attack and make a new swing at him.
It's pretty dynamic and you can turn the tide of the battle if you know your environment and when to dodge at the right moment. This way it's not only AC vs enemy AB, but also tumble + AC vs enemy AB.Let's see wether i'll keep on playing DDO or not.

It looked good. I downloaded it.
It was alright gameplay at first. I was pissed that I got flaming equipment immediately but kicked everything's ass on my powerbuild. The RP server sucked- just like a WoW rp server. Everyone's ten as well.
So my mom and I looked at eachother and simply said "Next".

It sucks. nuff said
-
I used to play it a bit. Now, no. It got boring once you had to do a lot of grinding, and you were forced to repeat the same quests over and over…
Also, I do not like the setting. YOU CAN'T PLAY EVIL.
