What counts too personal?

/topic/1524/just-something-random/6
In this topic there is a (large) screenshot of an interesting conversation which lead me to ask this question.
What counts too personal for you here? Do you have problem with personal questions such as your age or when someone asks if you have children?
If yes, please explain why! Let's discuss! (I'd very much appriciate serious opinions instead of jokes here.):)
Sidenote:
One of my friends had some guests from palestina. They are actually christians and I was very much interested in speaking with them. It turned out that they were only 14 years old, so I skipped the chat, but -despite I've spent only a few hours with them- it shocked me that they didn't seem different at all. They were listening the same hits on their phones, they were posing for photos ect.
I live in Hungary but it's still quite far away, if you catch my meaning. :)
It's quite a contrast with the topic mentioned above and that I find the said question not to be intime at all. -
If it's nothing sexual, I don't mind at all.
-
I'm fine if you ask me anything, but expect nothing but lies in response!
Most people here think I'm an 18 year old attract blond girl. -
I prefer to keep real life and CoA pretty seperate. I rarely answer personal questions honestly (ie. try and crack a joke instead) though some people i've become friends with or get along well with are some exception to that rule - almost always because they brought up some personal information first and not the other way around.
So if I haven't yet told you my shoe-size, you're probably a nobody to me. :(

I honestly dunno what question'd be too "private". Depends on a decree of how much ya talked with someone, I guess.

Personally, I'm terrible at holding secrets. This has lead to awkward situations, like the time Forte broke into HarryMcScary's house and held his family hostage for a fortnight, demanding we approve one of his terrible concepts and give him 500 starting gold. We weren't about to give in, until the negotiater went ahead and promised Forte he'd get what he asked for.
The team was furious. I also tend to copy-paste plot threads into private messages I send to random accounts.
I quess this was kind off topic, though. But yeah. It's hard not to answer those private questions, I would like for you to stop asking them!

So it seems I'm the strange one here. ;)
Perhaps the reason is that I'm working occasionally as an admin on a chat-site for children. It makes me easier to accept personal relations formed on-line. (and here I don't want to say those relations are any way healthy or 'valid')Let me ask a different question then. Did you ever happen to find yourself curious about something personal? What did you do? Did you ask it directly? Tried to ask things which would let you guess? Or just didn't care?

Just asked directly.

And a pedo doesn't need to ask for an "age".

You never know if someone is lieing or not on the net anyway, so asking is kinda pointless.
As an example, Brock pretends to be Black, Dond is really a running joke Vshar made up in V2 and Forte was replaced by a spam bot in 2007.

Huh. That explains why Forte always answers my PMs. His advice on cheap travel destinations was pretty good, though I keep getting these wierd charges on my credit-card…
Honestly with this kind of thing I'm generally careful how much information I send out, but I mean honestly - if you're on Facebook then you clearly aren't that fussed about it.
I don't lie, though, if I don't want to tell someone I respond with a standard "It's a secret! :D" which is both charming and inoffensive at the same time, I feel. If I do answer, I'm honest, and I do chat OOCly with some players on Arabel.
That person was probably doing a study on Roleplayers. Except for the occasional toddler, I expect their study to show an audience which is predominantly female, aged 18 almost exclusively.

It was 1000, actually. Or 500 with Snakes and Tinker providing a sexy show.

Actually I replaced the bot in 2006.

I want to know everyone's home address and social security number. Please include credit card information too, if you don't mind.

No. At least I didn't mean to. I've meant that forming a friendship online and treating it perfectly the same way as a regular friendship is just false. I've seen enough of this between those children.

If someone asks me personal questions, like age and stuff, I have no issues in answering truthfully. I rarely ask what I regard as personal questions of other people. However, I do sometimes ask where someone lives in terms of country level or UK county level. It's fun knowing you're playing a game with a group of people from Hungary, Japan, LA, Brazil and Antarctica all at the same time. Interacting in OOC Tells with friends that I have played with over a number of years is fun. It's part of why I play online in CoA. Some I know quite a bit of detail about; others, I don't know age, gender, name, location or anything. It depends what they have chosen to tell me. If someone tells me they're loging to go to work, I might ask them what kind of job do they do. It's chatter.
If I become aware that I am in a party with someone of a delicate young age 12-15 ish, I am likely to be very careful on content. With this, I mean that I am not going to escalate any threatening connection that might move towards PvP with someone that young. I'm not sure how they will react, and I have no desire to upset them (Dond being an exception. He is still 12, isn't he?)
-
I have played this game for 6,5 years. On CoA. Spending so much time with some people makes it impossible not to bond with them in some way or another. Thorkm for instance, is the person I have known the longest and who still plays here. Likely why we so often end up playing side by side. We are simply good at it.
So yeah, I have made actual friends on this server. When I was still in high school, I got help with my spanish and english papers. I got porn from Forte, and eventually you just bond in some way or another.
However, such also leads to sad things. Krystia being the most saddening of it all.
But it comes natural. Jokes on irc, drunken logins…

Honestly, it's hard to say. There's a handful of people who know quite a bit about me, both people that I played with before DMing and some of the DM team. There's no real point where I say "OK, this person can know this and that person can know that," it's really organic, just like meeting people anywhere.
People have crossed the line before, and I usually deflect that with a joke. I've usually found that the people who cross the line with asking questions are 12-16 years old, and they either get bored and leave CoA, get banned, or grow up and stop asking those questions.
-
Really, I don't care if you ask personal questions. If I don't know you, I will probably lie. If I do know you, then I will simply tell you the truth. In an age where we plaster personal information all over the web, it really won't make a difference if one more person knows how old you are, or if your married/single. Also, alluding to what O'Louth said, it is near impossible not to make friends. We are a fairly small community, and repeated interactions with players are bound to happen. Eventually, you get to know them on an OOC basis as well as an IC one. Friendships, in my opinion, should be encouraged. However, I understand not all people will be as comfortable releasing 'private' information as others.
