New PrC Requirements
-
If the DMs were to change any of the requirements for Prestige Classes, what should the new requirements be?
-
Mechanical or play wise?
-
Mechanical.
-
Blackguard should be changed so that any class could achieve it. Remove cleave and the base attack bonus requirement whilst adding more powerful fiendish summons at the lower levels of acquiring the class. These guys should be rolling waves of evilgasmic destruction but also be the most difficult PrC to earn.
Also non-druidic shifters would be excellent. Perhaps arcane based ones.
-
I think it would definately be better if it was possible to take any PrC at level 6 at latest (namely looking at those "7+ BAB") if not remove mechanical requirements altogether, which were always more suited to a level 20 endgame.
Starting down the path of a PrC after level 5 though, seems reasonable to me since that's a little below "average character level".

Lift up all the Prequisites and instead allow DMs to decide when did a character achieve a certain goal to become a PrC? Swap the mechanical requierments for purely RP, In-Game achieved ones.
It would still be hard to get them, however, it also allows people who did not create a character for a PrC to get one incidentally.

Excellent shout.

Champion of Torm alignment to any.
Blackguard not requiring hide, maybe intimidate or something (since they don't even get hide as a skill, making it rather a wasted rank even for rogues or rangers taking it).
Pd Knight without mounted combat (coa-useless)
Shifter open per PnP (3rd level casting with alternate shape abilities or polymorphing magic, not just druids).
Take out whirlwind attack for weapon masters, the feats impractical in itself for most situations, and made worse by the nwn gltich that can end up paralyzing you. Subbing another feat, or some skill requirements (Parry, Discipline) maybe.
General - Knock the BAB requirements down to 5 on the warrior ones, opening up the classes a bit more on coa (Most of the non-fighter ones are takeable at level 5/6 so it'd be about even).

I concur. Should your suddenly get a character approved for a PrC and not have the build for it, thats no fun. And building towards a PrC you'll never get can be even more frustrating (even tho we're not supposed to think like that). Also, they should all be available from lv 6.

Knight PrC
Remove Mounted combat. Besides that, the skills are alright.Champion of X
Make it weapon focus + 4 base ab.Arcane archer
4 base ab, and remove the racial part. Also, make it -any- ranged weapon (so, say, halflings could use slings?Remove the need for sorc or bard lvls on the DDR

Weapon Master and Divine Champion should have the necessary BAB reduced to +5, I think. As is, they're designed for high level settings, and few people, if any, ever benefit from the abilities that come from the classes.
I'd like to see all of the skill requirements from Blackguard removed, and have it a purely earn-through-RP class.

Most importantly, remove the hide factor. It always made the littlier sense to me.

Is this do-able, or just academic?

Double that view.

Specific changes may be the way to go. However, lacking the detailed knowledge (or the time to look them up right now) about the requirements, here's another thought.
It has been suggested to eliminate all mechanical requirements - which seems too radical to me as that might make the mechanical side completely arbitrary. But perhaps there would not need to be any precisely fixed mechanical requirements other than a minimum level (perhaps as low as 4th?). I.e., they might be technically "switched off" but they could be somewhat different on a case by case (character, not PRC) basis. E.g., champion of Bane might be different from Champion of Lathander and so on. So, one way would be to completely spell it all out - but perhaps explicit flexibility could be part of it.

In a setting where Earn-In-Game is such a huge factor, this is something I would agree with.

Reduce skill requirements for assassin IMO, if you can pull off a hit at a lower level then you deserve it early.

Not mechanics, but perhaps change the definition of Harper Scout to something a bit broader, like roguish divine champions, spies, special bards… things like that. This would make the class a lot more available to different concepts, and serves the dual purpose of preventing Harper Scouts who are actually Harpers being known for what they are by whats on the player list.

We already do that Jared, you can be creative in your approach to the named PrCes.
