OOC recruitment: Free Arabel Border Jumpers
-
Lets face it, Free Arabel's economy is in the shitter, while the Cormyrians are still rich. I will be starting a faction soon where the goal will be to jump the border into cormyr and fight our way into a cozy job as a cormyrian noble's cleaning lady/gardener.
Because of a high potential for metagaming the border guards between the countries, only the best of the best will be accepted and any concepts for this group will require a five page app that should be PMed directly to CakeorDeath.
While any class can work for this concept, having skill focus in both fence cutting and open field running is a must. Clerics of Lurue who believe the unicorn queen actually to be a mop in the king of Cormyr's castle would be a perfect example of a good concept to build from.
So, I suppose all thats left to say is I hope to see you working in a cormyrian grape farm next to me some time soon.
-
I'm in. This sounds both challenging and rewarding. And what's more is that with jobs secured in both borders, my character can reap some semblance of dual-citizenship.
-
Point made.
The OOC recruitment should be refocused on IC recruitment folks.
Also, Zachary Snyderlson is still paying for unicorn steaks if you can find them and grill him some with BBQ sauce.

About time.
All these OOC recruitment posts are an eye-sore. -
They stop for a bit, then come in bundles. I hate them.
-
Well, let's not be haters. A few OOC posts are fine once in awhile, but most recruiting should be done IC.
-
Don't be hatin' on my hate.
-
Just to be clear, I just woke up in a cooky mood to a bunch of recruitment posts and rolled with the first thought that went into my head. The people who made the posts are all movers and shakers (my coa phrase of 2010) and are very active ig with their concepts, and shouldn't be blasted for trying to spread the love a bit. It is ironic that one post leads to five more, but thats likely just a case of people thinking about doing it, seeing someone else doing it, and just going for it themselves. Everyone who has ever tried to do something proactive on CoA has hit that brick wall at some point or another, and at that point even the taboo stuff like ooc posts can seem appealing.
Basically, I was trying to be funny, not make a statement.

What the hell is a Quapney Sheps?

You tell me, you guys put it there…

-
it isnt as if most of the people who posted there, arent working their backsides trying to recruit IG.
-
If you're recruiting for something clandestine or as-yet-unmade (Fire knife assassin to noble family) then OOC recruitment's called for, obviously; if instead, you are present IG and working IC towards recruitment, going so far as to place recruitment posters on the bulletin boards and make sendings - then OOC recruitment is unnecessary. I'm sure you can find some very IC ways to express all the awesome about your group and why people should join.
-
Lizzy's got it right.
If it's a pre-creation thing, OOC it.
If it's pursuable IG, do it IG.
-
While I support doing most things IG, there are some major points going for the whooping THREE OOC recruits running now.
Eclesian: you have to apply pre-creation, so no IG recruitment is at all possible. Makes it fair, no?
Fist of the Vengeful: Monks are not allowed to multiclass much, so you'd have to start as a monk. Not many people seem to play monks these days on low level/low magic servers. Character creation has to be done, but then you could join IG. You'd have to know about it to make the monk tho.
Cormyrians: Not everyone are suited for it, quite few are actually. So a pre-creation heads-up is good. Cormyrian loyalists would usually have to implement it into their backstory and character concept. That can't be done IG, thats upon creation.
Still tho, I don't see the fuss.

No. it's well-known among the playerbase. Same as any other app-concept, only difference is DMs would probably let the independently applied for Eclestains know about each other's name and description.

No. any existing monk can simply be recruited IG, same as other monk groups have done. If this is a "new order of monk" then do it IG. if it is a existing canon order, then it STILL doesn't make sense for OOC recruitment - unless the concept is about the canon order starting a large scale invasion for a specific reason.

Yes, but still why have OOC recruitment. Depending on background of independent chars DMs -may- inform them of other Cormyreans they know from before. Unless one is thinking of a concept where you have characters who know each other individually (such as ex-cormyeans deserters from the same unit) than I dont see the need for OOC contact.
Those few possibilities where it would be needed would usually be from players with prior histories with each other who create a concept jointly.
Such as "The Multitude".perhaps a single thread in player resources would be appropiate
"Non DM-faction special backgrounds" where a listing is made for possible groups that newer players would not know about.
For instance, (writeups would likley be slightly more detailed)"Eclestians - a group who actively hunts those hwo deal with demons and devils. used to be highly active in Arabel, less so now"
"Cormyreans - people with active ties to Cormyr a spart of their characters"
"Red Wizards - Thay used to have a embassy, but no longer does.."
etc.
That would give people a headsup on what might be possible, and those areas that they might posisbly have others about IG from, without the direct OOC recruitment.

I think opening up the floor to your concept and just recruiting anyone who wants to play is pretty much an error. Never had it work for me in 6 odd years of being here.
The best OOC recruiting is to hook up with a friend who plays, or a player you know through roleplaying and know his or her perks and strengths.
If you don't have any friends in game then…. I dunno... get some friends...
-
OOC is really the only way for me to do this, due to the lack of monks running around. sure the odd person makes a monk by their lonesome and I RP it out with them and they join my order but usually i have to talk to people OOC first to set it up, or it just dosnt happen

One bulletin board announcement from April 13 and you give up on IC recruitment, saying it just doesnt work?
Ever make a sending? I've never heard of it IG (although that could be TimeZone mismatch)If thats the effort you're putting into it, might as well abandon it now.
As a example,When Ranan Holo was getting monks of different groups to come and train and compare and such, he made a concerted effort over months. Many many many sendings. Over time he got perhaps 4-6 monks who'd come and train/compare their styles, with a couple who could be considered dedicated to it, and would also do so.
Nothing OOC was needed. This wasn't just a minor side thing, not the main focus of the char (i think, not mine, so dont really know that) and the effort was done. It's a new monk order and concept that your character is coming up and trying to get it off the ground. Who would have heard of it in other places to even be ABLE to be recruited before character creation ?
Get the word out, with bulletin board, sendings, etc etc.
People will see them, and perhaps make monks.
