Being online when its needed
-
Two recent invasion and both the times I was not online. I feel sorely leftout and Jealous looking at the screenshot of such events especially when such events can have some significant importance to the char. Kinda hard when you are at the other end of the world :(
Is there any way that players can be informed to be online without compromising the surprise element of such events
-
If the players were made aware what was going to happen beforehand there is still no garantee you would get on, as I am sure the server would be at 55/55. Also if people knew such an event wereto be taking place they would prepare beforehand, which kind of ruins the point of a suprise attack.
it's just one of those things. you sometimes miss events such as this other times you dont.

Very unlikely.
Sometimes these events aren't pre-planed. Sometimes they balloon from an encounter/spice gone HORRIBLY HORRIBLY WRONG!
Sometimes a DM is just bored.
-
That's kind of a contradicting request.
"How can I be informed of an event without being surprised that the event is going to happen?"
-
Yeah I know what you posted, I just fail to see how you can inform someone of something and it remain a suprise is all
-
Hang around in IRC, someone almost always spills the beans.
-
Never on when something good happens, only events leading up to and the aftermath. I have to miss everything. Kinda like the party bus always showing up after I leave the party.
-
I'm sure there's some quite IC ways to "arrange" these things. Like a band of adventurers happening upon a small bandit encampment, killing them and finding on them orders from Clar Banda to help in the attack in two days' time. That way you will still learn of it IC and can actually make plans in preperation for it.

I think in cases where its spontaneous or DM like to have fun, one cannot do much.
But thinking that OOC knowledge of an event will make players prepared does not hold good. I don’t think one can ward off DM spawns no matter how well you are prepared. I don’t know how to put it..may be keeping track of what time DM’s play and when they get bored seems to be one solution :)

The DMs attempt to have themselves spread throughout the timezones.
So they should be playing throughout the entire day no matter where you are, although some places seem to get a bit less than others.
-
You win some you lose some. You can't be online every single time something happens, whether its important or not. Thats the time-zoned world we live in. Unless you stay up 24/7, which is bad for your health

It's simple - we need SCRYING in Arabel!
6th circle wizard/cleric spell "DM Events Foreseeing"

The real reason I quit, right there
