Vampirism

Nathan spends a few hours looking over dusty tomes in the Knights Archives, aswell as the City Library, with reference to undead, specifically vampires/vampirism. In particular, he looks for details regarding the noteable characteristics and physical appearance of such creatures, as well as weaknesses

@Bob:
Chapter 13: Vampires
Forever anchored to their coffins and the unholy earth of their graves, these nocturnal predators scheme constantly to strengthen themselves and fill the world with their foul progeny. Vampires appear just as they did in life, although their features are often hardened and feral, with the predatory look of wolves. Like liches, they often embrace finery and decadence and may assume the guise of nobility. Despite their human appearance, vampires can be easily recognized, for they cast no shadows and throw no reflections in mirrors. Vampires speak any language they knew in life.
Additional Strengths: Were to begin? A Vampire is one of the toughest undead an adventure may come across in their journeys. A vampire can suck the essence of life from an adventurer with a mere bite, and by looking in to the adventurer’s eyes the vampire can crush their will and bind them to its bidding. Even if you were able to avoid its special attacks and probably weapon blows, the vampire is able to resist the effects of all mundane weapons, so only a magically enhanced weapon would be useful against a vampire. And even then the vampire is able to regenerate its damaged body at an incredible rate. On top of this a vampire is highly resistant to all forms of electric and cold damage.
Additional Weaknesses: With all these strengths the vampire actually has vulnerabilities. A Vampire cannot stand the strong odor of garlic and will recoil from a strongly presented holy symbol. If slain in combat the vampire will change into a gaseous form and head for its coffin. If it does not make it back to its coffin in gaseous form in a certain time it is destroyed. If exposed to direct sunlight it is utterly destroyed, while driving a stake through its heart instantly slays it as well. Also immersing a vampire in running water is another way to destroy the vampire completely.

//4th edition manual states that garlic and running water has no effect on a vampire. And that a stake hurts them as much as a weapon would. Does what Caek wrote stand?

//err.. NwN is 3rd ed…

//Got it. Thanks.

// Keep in mind, the information in the library is not 100% accurate. Just like in real-life, not everything written in a book is true. Comparing it to OOC information from sourcebooks (which, by the way, the DMs often ignore or change to lessen metagaming), makes no sense.
