The best information comes from a book titled Geography of Cormyr by Narfel Smith written in 1372.
On the Stormhorn Mountains
These forbidding mountains are massive and sharp, forming a high wall broken only near High Horn Pass and Gnoll Pass, which are guarded by Castle High Horn and Castle Crag. The Storm Horns protect Cormyr from attack but also limit expansion to the north and west, the forgoing policy of the Crown being that any settlements north of these forts is a risk to Cormyrian security. Although humanoid tribes live in the mountains, their power was broken long ago, but not before the famed Thrivaldi dwarf tribes were eradicated by an unknown threat and their halls lost. The humanoid tribes pose a threat only when a shaman or charismatic barbarian manages to pull them together for raids. Some of the tribes are learning to trade peacefully, exchanging iron ore and furs for food and gold. Other tribes deeper within the Storm Horns resent the flatlanders and prepare ambushes for explorers. A number of orc survivors from the attack on Arabel have fled to the eastern Storm Horns and some claim the Devil Dragon's lair can be found here, and many roam the flatland between the mountains and the city. The mountains are also home to rogue dragons, which often wake up, hungry after resting from their last great flight.
The Storm Horns have three permanent human settlements. Eagle Peak (hamlet, 153) is built on a large outcropping at the western most passable edges of the mountains and is a popular caravan stop, while Skull Crag (hamlet, 270) is a mining community overshadowed by a large rock dedicated as a shrine to Kelemvor. The tiny village of Flynn (village 124) just a day south of Gnoll Pass into the Stonelands, established by traders who formed the Northern Dawn Trading Syndicate to trade with barbarian tribes near a hot spring held sacred by several humanoid tribes who had fought over the spring for centuries. Supposedly, the Northern Dawn gained the land here by agreeing to allow open access to all the barbarian tribes who visited and Cormyrian agents have shown increased interest in protecting the village though this may not last. Various other settlement efforts have been made by rugged individuals, but they rarely survive attacks by barbarians, orcs, or even the occasional dragon.
