When your time is limited..

I struggle to invest as much time into COA as much as I used to..work, fiancé, dogs..
I also hate being not involved with my PCs and not being the centre of attention. If my villain
PC isn’t THE focus of the server I get bored and want to move onto something elseSo, how do we get Best out of COA without having the time we used to
-
I'm losing more and more time as well, and I'll very soon not be able to invest as much of it as I've done in the past. So I, likewise, need some guidance on this. I do not think I can keep up my current thing of being in charge of a faction, for example. But I hope I will be able to.

When I don't have time, I usually have to make a concept from the ground up that isn't heavy on time. Just enjoy questing, roleplaying and occaisionally being involved in someone's big plot.
If you want to carry on with a high-octane character though, that is genuinely tough. I can't say I've solved that riddle myself.

I tend not to have much time to devote to NWN. I have a tough job that takes up a huge amount of my time so its frequently a choice between social life, non-work responsibilities, NWN or enough sleep to function. I have a bit of advice. Take it with a grain of salt as I'm not known for being particularly successful with my plots.
-
Play something that you will enjoy no matter the results! - playing a concept that's too dependant on winning or competing will be very difficult when your enemies play many more hours than you do. I tend to accomplish this by playing explorer-types or unique builds.
-
Do what you enjoy IG - don't be afraid to ditch that 3rd plot meeting to go out exploring or even questing. If you start to get bored of meetings you may start to get bored of the game or character.
-
Don't bite off more than you can chew - CoA is really fun and can easily start to take up moor and more time. Running into RL problems because of NWN can really make one consider quitting. Also getting involved in too many plots can lead to wanting to play too much. Try to stick to one or two plots or one or two goals.

Have you considered the ancient art of minioning? It might sound like a drag if you're used to "Big Bang" characters, but I've gotten some of the most wonderful stories out of my PCs that were intended to be helpers.

As someone playing a tripping over their Lords feet Minion right now, I gotta say it is one of the most rewarding experiences I've had on CoA since Malvrick Antara. And I know @solarfall knows how much I loved that.
Try something new dude, you may find you enjoy it if you let yourself.

I think Caek just wanted to secretly tell us he has a girlfriend!
(Jokes aside, yes, minion is a sure way!)

One thing I find helps a lot, is to do some OOC research about the player base. Send people some messages introducing yourself and just talking to them. (This is what I did when I first found out about the server)
Figure out people's timezones and work off of that. Having people to play with you when you're available is very key to having fun, in my opinion. I believe there is a thread that is used for this as well. (I can't find it, I know it's here somewhere!)
Everything else will fall in place after.
