DOTA
-
I'm trying to explain DOTA to someone who hasn't played video games since the original NES and why there's a $18mil prize pool and why they're live streaming the championships to theaters in the US but I'm not really sure myself… anyone send me 2-3 sentences that explain all that so I don't have to sift through dozens of fan sites?
My wife is at the finals this week and really confused as to what is going on.

This is a house of League of Legends, son.
But in general: "It's a very popular online sport. The 18 million dollar prize pool was funded by the developers of the game as well as the community, hence why it's so high. They're streaming to promote their product as well as enable people who can't be there in person to watch it."
It's a heavily simplified sentence but should get the point across.

If someone explains me why money in football exceeds numbers I can imagine as a wedge with a factor of 1000 or 10000 I give it a try.
Human race is a curious one. I'm pretty sure there is no solid reason. My additional concerns are loosely related to this talk.
