How to move and shake the server, with no DM
-
I have to admit, that since my return, I have considered long and hard how to shake things up, when I play in timezones with NO Dm coverage. If I am to talk to a dm, I most often have to log on Irc past 11 PM. And as such, it is very rarely, due to having work and such, that I see a dm IG. I have tried to use the forum to my advantage, and to intrigue and such instead, but as today was a witness to, occasionally the events you actually want to be a part of, are at times where it is difficult if not impossible to get to them. It was 3PM, and I was at work still when the event of today took place.
Anyhow, long story short, I play CoA with very VERY rare chances of getting "DM" love, and I reckon most of my fellow European players are in the same boat. The question then remains, how do you others, stay involved? How do you advance in your faction, how do you push your plots? Or have you like I, felt disheartened by not even being able to find a dm to get set up, or obtain a key for you faction base? This is by the way, not a rant, but me asking for help, players and DMs alike. Can I still feel like i make a contribution to the server, if I never see a dm, and if so, how should I go about it?

Personally, I like to shake things up with other players and plot around them. This can be done with the players that log in around the same time as you. The way things are now, "shaking the server" might not always be possible depending on the time zone, but it's not -impossible-. Preparation, planning, patience, and weekends can go a long way. Make your own fun, do what you can -when- you can, don't fret over the things you can't. Just my two cents.

I am typically DMing in European afternoon time zone actually. Early AM EST is best for me, and that's pretty much afternoon/evening for Euros.

I used to play on GMT +5.5, nearly 12 hours ahead of almost all DMs when I was a player. I got very little "DM love", focused mostly on coming up with stuff for other people to do. Yeah, I didn't get to attend the quests that I made possible, but the DMs understood that the quest was happening because I pushed it IG (even if I wasn't actually there for the event) and usually did manage to get stuff done through proxy.
I was fine with that personally, but it's perfectly understandable that other people may not be; Different strokes. Shaking the server is all about coming up with ideas and cool shit to do, even if you can't do it yourself. Having effective subordinates in high activity timezones who can carry out your stuff on their own is a definite plus here.
TLDR; Have a cool idea that is possible to get done in game, get others to do it for you. Or stay up late (but that's not really feasible most of the time).

Well i go out exploring with whoever wants to go for example ive been through Redwood upper and one of the island dungeons today with a few players we had a great time, and it was classed as pushing personal plots, what it really was,was a few players role playing and having fun.
Mol dropped some XP on us a couple of days ago because we were pushing another personal plot and were out doing it and we had alot of fun,and really that is what you should be doing having fun,if your not having fun you should scrap the character roll a new one so you can.

Yes, basically, host events, create exploring groups, announce quest trains–DMs basically love to see anyone who makes reasons for other players to log in and then go reward you for it no matter what time zone we're in.
Half the time, when a player is rocking it out, we know even if we never actually see them--we hear other players talking about what they're up to.

The guy who was mostly in charge of rebuilding eveningstar almost never saw a dm in game for the entire characters life span. The fm forums still had tonnes of info about them in it. You could literally take over the city without ever seeing a dm in game. It would be harder, of course, and I wish we could change that, but a dm can (and do) run things based on your character without you being logged in.
As for actual advice… I have loads, but I'm typing on a tiny phone, in Amsterdam, and now wondering what the hell im doing on this forum right now... Maybe when I get back.
