Log Rotation Script
-
If you're familiar with the Gnomish Log Rotator, you'll remember that it had a function of auto-cycling logfiles after NWN was closed. Unfortunately GLR's original auto-rotate version isn't to be found and the GLR 5000 is tbh shitty.
I found a script a few days ago on Google, here it is and the steps to use it.
Step 1: Create a text file on your desktop named "nwn.bat", you'll be using command prompt to change it to an actual bat file later on.
Step 2, use this script:
@echo off
set nwndir=[your NWN directory]
cd %nwndir%
start /wait %nwndir%\nwmain.exe (If you're using an ATI card, you might have to use nwgame_main.exe to get it running instead, Radeon cards don't play nice with NWN)for /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /T') do set year=%%c
for /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /T') do set month=%%a
for /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /T') do set day=%%b
set TODAY=%year%-%month%-%day%for /f "tokens=1 delims=: " %%h in ('time /T') do set hour=%%h
for /f "tokens=2 delims=: " %%m in ('time /T') do set minutes=%%m
for /f "tokens=3 delims=: " %%a in ('time /T') do set ampm=%%a
set NOW=%hour%-%minutes%-%ampm%move %nwndir%\logs\nwclientLog1.txt [your NWN logfiles directory]\txt-%TODAY%-%NOW%.txt
Make sure you have logging turned on to begin with!
Step 3 is just renaming the text file by removing the .txt part in the name, and it should work with no issues.
The only thing missing from it and the 3.1 GLR is a confirmation message of rotation.

I can't remember how to turn on text logging on

viewtopic.php?t=87333&hilit=chat+logging
Instructions there. I don't even remember making that post. I remember making a lot of posts between now and 2005, but that isn't one of them, hah.

I might have a go at updating the Auto Downloader to include log rotation, if people would like it.
-
Would be cool, but I guess make it an option.
-
Absolutely.
Also, choose where to store old logs.
-
-
Cool. No reason not to update it then. Send it across to me and I can replace the files on the server I reckon.
-
Here's a link for beta testers
-
Can we noobs have a clear explanation what it does and how to use it once beta tests are finished, please? :)
-
It'll let you save all of your chatlogs, instead of just the latest one.
-
It can be used in exactly the same way as the current download, and will actually replace the current downloader. The extra feature will allow the storage of all your Chat Logs. These logs are created every time you play Neverwinter Nights and stored in the {nwn}\Logs folder where {nwn} is the folder that your Neverwinter Nights installation is. It records everything you say and you hear other people say. It's useful to keep a track of important RP sessions where you need to re-read some of the details. It is also very important if someone has been inappropriate verbally either IC or OOC and you wish to highlight this to the DMs.
If the Rotate Logs is checked, your log file from the last session will be copied to a new folder and dated so that you can review it in Notepad or another such editor.
An example of what you might see is as follows:
@Example:
[Lamancha] Daniel Wintersun: [Tell] silentpaws!
[Lamancha] Daniel Wintersun: [Talk] Silentpaws?
Bloated Wolf: [Talk] The animal's belly bursts open allowing a new creature to emergeAs you can see, you can distinguish between Tells and standard Talk etc.

For anyone testing this, please let me know both good and bad feedback, bugs and suggestions for improvement. Let me know if you are testing it, so I know enough people have tested it before we decide to go live.
-
Lamancha, does this work on Mac's? if so I will give it a try.
-
Works just fine for me on Windows 7.
-
Thanks HellzYeah, but I don't run windows on the Mac :D
-
I don't think it'll work on a Mac. :(
-
Thanks for the quick response Lamancha
